I often find that a simple way to make a manager feel like they have control and have made a good decision, is to make one version of something that is obviously inferior and one that you like. The manager can then exert his creative vision by choosing the good one. It is a bit of a risky play since there is a chance the manager could choose the terrible one :P

This bit is a good summary. I think flat design on mobile really frees designers up to look into animation and interaction design. Letterpress definitely proves that. It also frees designers up from focusing on detailed effects and stylized UI. Focusing on typography and layout will create much better and more usable applications.

Ah, now I see the light :) Thats a good point, sounds like Github is semi guaranteeing the API access but the url could get canned at any time.

Reminds me of the reddit.tv project. Its a cool way to experience video content that is posted on HN. Would be cool if you could extract videos from submitted links that aren't from youtube/vimeo, but are like a The Verge link with a video embedded.

nabbed it, awesome thanks! App works great. I admit the number of touches and simplicity of the UI makes this a nice standalone utility. Its a little hard to be specific with the UIPickerView, but thats not exactly anything easy to fix. It would be interesting to see if there was a better UI component for selecting the units.

Maybe you could market it as a tool for Boy Scouts to learn the knots required for each rank quickly.

Agreed, especially if you are using this app a lot, number of steps is more important than any aesthetic. More apps need to take this into account. I like it and look forward to seeing if you can find any other ways to simplify the conversion action.

I just backed this project, and it sounds like an awesome way to quantify all the learning that happens on open platforms like iTunes U, MIT Open Courseware, and others. Might be a way to finally create a new accreditation for online open learning.
