That is like 3 steps more than it should be. There should be a global setting to tell apple to fuck off with their security bullshit.
cthaeh··on Do whatever you can't stop thinking about
If 80 year old thinks that not playing video is more regretful than not working out, then nothing anyone says about living a good life or being productive applies to you
cthaeh··on How Ambient Chill Became the New Silence
As someone with tinnitus, it is so much worse than background noise.

Now I love background noise because it's the only way I can escape tennitus (I hate headphones)

cthaeh··on My Decade as a Fugitive
Because that person is a person. We all have Hope's and dreams, and more importantly we are all selfish.
cthaeh··on WhatsApp sues NSO Group for allegedly helping spies hack phones around the world
What about the 2 spies who interviewed citizen lab researchers looking for dirt on them?

Clearly it's the Israeli government.

cthaeh··on CloudFlare is ruining the internet for me (2016)
The hate for poor people in this comment is insane.
cthaeh··on Huawei Mate 30 phones launch without Google apps
Detention is not genocide. Stop trivializing the use of the word genocide.
cthaeh··on Catastrophic effects of working as a Facebook moderator
Apple uses their data today to create various products.

What the data gets used for later by Apple, the government or organized crime, when it inevitably gets stolen, is anybody's guess.

cthaeh··on Catastrophic effects of working as a Facebook moderator
I see apple as: 1. The biggest hypocrite in all of technology with regards to monopolistic tendencies. Unlike Google and Facebook, Apple is loved by the media, so noone calls them out on their shit, bringing me to my second point:

2. While other firms like Google and Facebook have served to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, between the first and third world, apple has done exactly the opposite.

I, and large portions of the non-western world see Apple as a representation of american power and western influence. And that has had alot alot alot of benefits for Apple but it also made me hate their guts so yeah.

cthaeh··on Catastrophic effects of working as a Facebook moderator
Not really when that service is offered free of charge. I am pretty sure most people in India, Africa don't give a shit that Facebook uses their data to serve them ads. They and the world, gets an invaluable service in return.

I certainty don't care.

cthaeh··on Catastrophic effects of working as a Facebook moderator
I think his opinion is far stronger. Facebook is a far better company than apple. At least they dont hate poor people.

How crazy I sound to you is how crazy you all sound to me.

cthaeh··on Google’s rivals opt out of search engine auction, calling it ‘anti-competitive’
Hacker news, the media and politicians love Apple for the doing the same shit that Google does.

So lets not forget Google is paying apple nearly 10 Billion a year to be its default search engine.

The hypocrisy makes me sick.

cthaeh··on WebKit Tracking Prevention Policy
By your given definition, Google isn't a monopoly either as there are clear alternatives to them in every sector that they are in.
cthaeh··on WebKit Tracking Prevention Policy
I find it very easy to use "Apple" and "monopoly" in the same sentence.

Apple has been consistently making it harder to make money off iOS users without sharing that revenue with apple. Furthermore, they don't allow side loading of apps, their own apps have special api's that their competitors can't use, etc.

I could go on and on.

cthaeh··on ‘No girls born’ for past three months in area of India covering 132 villages
In India? Have you ever been there?
cthaeh··on Highlights from Facebook’s Libra Senate hearing
Thats illegal. Highly highly doubt Facebook or any company in the media spotlight will ever do anything clearly, and obviously illegal.
cthaeh··on Waymo gets green light in California to pick up passengers in self-driving cars
This is the shittiest handkerchief math ever. Your only considering fatalities- which comprise a small subset of the total number of accidents.

Secondly, you didn't actually provide a comparison. You simply remarked "Oh the chances of dying in a car accident is comparable to the chances of dying due to lightening therefor cars are safe" (whilst ignoring the 2 ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE difference between them, people struck by lightening != people killed by lightening and the fact that cars are not safe, as anyone who has ever driven will tell you).

cthaeh··on Waymo gets green light in California to pick up passengers in self-driving cars
U give far to much credit to human drivers. Capable human drivers as a subset of human drivers. A large subset to be sure, but nowhere near everyone. At least an av cant get drunk.
cthaeh··on Microsoft's eBook Apocalypse Shows the Dark Side of DRM
Your clearly not looking in the right places. You can find good quality, recent edition copies of any relatively popular book online now.
cthaeh··on Ask HN: Can we create a new internet where search engines are irrelevant?
This is a technocracy. Noone wants this but Hacker News.
cthaeh··on Facebook urged to pause Libra crypto-currency project
Have you been to any of countries in the world with dysfunctional banking systems?

India immediately comes to mind, many African nations likely would find this incredibly useful. Just because it isn't useful to YOU doesn't mean its useless.

cthaeh··on You probably don’t need ReCAPTCHA
Not really. Thats if the developers code it so that if you get a low score -> trigger images captcha (recaptcha v2)

Recatpcha v3 by itself NEVER shows anything to the user and its entirely up the application itself on how to deal with users who are likely to be bots (which also includes users with anti-fingerprinting measures)

cthaeh··on There are now more people over sixty-four than children younger than five
I guess I am really biased, being in Tech. Internships pay around half of what full times make, which as a college student is an insane amount of money. It's more than enough to graduate debt free.
cthaeh··on There are now more people over sixty-four than children younger than five
As a college student, you really aren't doing your kids any favors by paying for their college. Its not going to teach them the value of money when they have never earned anything themselves and their tuition is magically paid.

Taking loans and working in the summer/internships to pay it off, without being reliant upon your parents is the ideal to aim for.

After all, I think Warren Buffet said that he plans to give enough to his children so that they could anything, but not enough so that they can do nothing.

cthaeh··on SEC Charges Kik With Conducting $100M Unregistered ICO
How would these sort of cross border fines even work? I highly doubt Canada will extradite Kik executives.
cthaeh··on U.S. workers hate ‘open’ office spaces
Weird flex much?
cthaeh··on My Salary Progression in Tech
50mil/year passive income puts u at the billionaire level. Obviously they are not going to describe themselves middle class. I do believe the commenter is referring to people making 200-1000k+ and still calling themselves middle class.
