ct520··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
Well said! The comment about Linux I feel is spot on and gave me a chuckle. “ Contrast with Linux, where you can do absolutely anything you want, but nothing ever fully works.”

I’ve ran MacBook for mobile dev and pc for in home for over a decade. Swapped to new m1pro and finally ditched my windows desktop. Still keep a local esxi server with windows dev vm in case. But Best upgrade I’ve had in awhile.

ct520··on British engineers develop process to turn moon dust into oxygen
Not sure why this makes me laugh, maybe because I know all to well how you got to be explicit with development teams.

On serious note isn’t there some type of future plan to put nuclear reactors on the moon in this decade?

ct520··on Apple, Epic, and the App Store
It's the fact when you get large enough and force things that are considered unrealistic or anti competitive platform it becomes an issue. This isn't new to American business. It evolves. It use to be oil, steel, ATT, Microsoft.. Now it's Apple. Tech is long over due for a overhaul only a matter of time until some politician uses it to add a feather to their cap. 30% cut of a sale of a mature economy is just crazy.

monopsony - there is a word you dont here often. Probably not popular for a reason LOL
ct520··on Serverless: I'm a Big Kid Now
This! Lol I even went one step further.. On my monolithic apps I use the language framework mvc or mvvm option. (Currently developing on Asp.net) and only has spa on a complicated page! My productivity has been great. Coming from someone with a background across just about all backend frameworks and working with spas since pre angular 1.0.
ct520··on Serverless: I'm a Big Kid Now
1 VM and managed database service. Couple mins to deploy. I’ve drank the serverless koolaide before.

I find it makes sense more for my uses cases to use it as a tool if I need to extend a monolithic app, not as a standard to create an app.

ct520··on Domain-Oriented Microservice Architecture
That would make sense in a perfect world to me. I would prefer it too. This company I worked for was leader in its industry and many vertices. It had legacy apps from 80s still running through today. Probably 30 SAAS based applications or so. Many many different languages used. Many using internal services and queues to communicate with each other. With 100's if not 1000's of B2B integrations, pumping millions of requests through their portal at any given time. (they also maintained their own data centers.) Anyways, given my experience and troubleshooting message queuing etc and jumping in new code bases all the time. I was more like a blend of SRE / Dev / IT / Product manager. (yeah I know). Given I worked across the SDLC I always found it easiest to, establish the problem statement and the behavior around it. The expected behavior, then dive into the gray log with a unique piece of information that should be logged and trace it from there. To each their own. Unfortunetly with architecture this way I commonly see "segmentation" between Support/Ops/Dev were a problem can end up in limbo. That's were I would hop in.
ct520··on Domain-Oriented Microservice Architecture
I’ll take the latter any day with good patterns of aggregating to a grey log. Having to triage production issues in a multiple application saas environment, The latter has always been easier to me. Don’t get me started on trouble shooting someone else’s crazy event queues

Just read this after my comment. You are ABSOLUTELY correct. What you see is some warring within that is political anything else is smoke and mirrors.
ct520··on Drug cartel ‘narco-antennas’ make life dangerous for Mexico’s repairmen
I think what you are missing here - drug cartels are essentially mini factions that govern areas in the society. The cartels are the government and the government is public face for the cartels essentially. How this evolved over time has been interesting, but make no mistake about it. They both protect each other interests domestically. It's not that they can't its that they wont. They attack themselves when they're disputes. Its very fascinating and no secret down there.

If tiktok had was under the influence with Chinese government why wouldn't think do this to keep things on the up and up. Look at us guys - we put data in US. All good nothing to see here. (as china still can request whatever it wants). I dont see the point in this.

In the states non-profit means a company that is not for profit. It doesn't mean you can't pay yourself a wage that is inline for the duties and title you have.
