crypticlizard··on Tell HN: I'm nervous and don't know where else to go
Mistakes with software installation can take seconds to make but days to repair... At least that has been my experience at times. Go slow when the circumstances call for caution.

My 2c

crypticlizard··on Rapamycin, drug used in cancer therapy, emerges as powerful anti-aging remedy
Could you comment on if you think there is a natural analogue out there? Even if less effective? For example a quick google search led me to this: https://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/Article/2017/12/01/Ashw...

Which is suggesting Ashwagandha might a candidate for Rapamycin and Metformin mimcry.

crypticlizard··on [dead]
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Stripe yet. Fast and free
crypticlizard··on Show HN: Binarysearch.io – Learn Algorithms Together
Great Idea. I can see there is room for monetization too. Although ads are distracting, they could work as occasional in a room. Also, if it caught on, this could join the likes of leetcode...Ppl would pay for this b/c peer learning can be far more efficient or at least engaging. I can certainly see leetcode wanting to copy this idea.

This already has something over twitch which is sort of similar but not interactive. Also, I could see fb ads as quite effective to keep organic traffic up and help this catch on as a competitive way to get a job. You could even market the data you gain to companies looking to hire.

crypticlizard··on U.S. adults are spending big on video games, playing mostly on smartphones
shattered pixel dungeon is one such example imo.
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: What do you do for global warming?
I make allot of noise and flap my arms but ultimately, unless I'm feeling generous, all I do is make it worse, or marginally less worse. The truth imo is that we are bit players and the real players are destroying the planet as fast as possible for reasons unknown.

It's not true everyone had to react to it, many of the ppl. who have the power have a fatalististic attitude or just don't care

crypticlizard··on Microplastics Are Blowing in the Wind
Here we are on a forum with highly educated ppl. talking about what's happening. But what should we do to effect change? It seems to me that some way for us to unite our efforts in some modern internet/technology/mass-communication kinda way might help us break through the barriers to actually making progress. I honestly don't know what that looks like, but I believe if even the ppl. on this thread were able to band together effectively to work on this problem that is whatever-it-is-our-worlds-become I would have hope. I don't know what this "solution" looks like though. A website? A forum? A technology of some form? Unfortunately, I don't think anyone else knows either :(
crypticlizard··on Playing Pool with Pi (2003) [pdf]
If you haven't seen the 3blue1brown videos discussing this, I highly recommend them. https://youtu.be/jsYwFizhncE
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Do you like/use Reddit's redesign?
I hate it. So many reasons why. Redirect to mobile app along with nerfed mobile website is God awful. Broken browser behavior when clicking links is obnoxious. I'd go on but this thread covered everything else.
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: How should you tag your phone number to reduce the number of robocalls?
Not sure this helps but since using Google fi I have no spam as all those calls are labeled spam
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Is it just me or did Google search recently get a lot worse?
it's pretty good, when it's not i put a g! before the query
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: What major trend, event, or change is being overlooked by most people?
Aging research
crypticlizard··on Talk to Books
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a minute! Instantly exciting and it really works. I'm using this to explore old books I've read and forgotten parts of. Really fun to relive those special moments from fantasy and sci fi I've read over the years. Also this is an alternative to my experience at bookstores where I thumb through interesting books.
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: As a dev (not investor) which crypto$$$ are you most enthusiastic about?
Not just one coin, but I'm interested generally in blockchain as social media, I'd really like to see alternatives to fb, twitter, yt, business models with more fairness and also less centralization. Things I'm looking into right now are http://ong.social http://d.tube http://steemit.com
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Would you really pay for a social network?
Why pay for it? Block chain means It's going to pay us! See http://steemit.com or http://d.tube or http://Ong.social
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Did AI invent blockchain?
really? how? I'd be curious what theories you have
crypticlizard··on Show HN: The most price manipulated cryptocurrencies live on Binance
Site is down. Is there a cached version?
crypticlizard··on About the security content of updates for High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan
so, conspiracy?
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Is something very big on its way for the crypto community?
because of what happened with BCH?
crypticlizard··on Common Gotchas in Go
I liked how this was written. The way this was written sort of reminds me of go. It's as simple as approriate, and written in a way to be memorable. Nice UX trick deadbeef!
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Coders like to travel, but is there a Couchsurfing for coders?
Does anybody else think it would be cool to travel and connect with other coders? You'd get exposed to many programming ideas, and it would be a way to connect with other developers directly and socially, and your hosts could relate to you, being as they are fellow coders.
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: What's the best thing(s) you shipped in 2017?
Been super stoked on deep dream so I've been trying to ask myself how this could be more mainstream. Maybe get photographers hooked on it. I've been posting my code thoughts on the subject at http://GitHub.com/drmly/bind
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: 2018 resolutions?
Work consistently on my startup.
crypticlizard··on India Says Bitcoin as Risky as Ponzi Schemes
Well is this Orwellian double talk? To some extent, I think that's wildly accurate. Buy stocks that are sort of a scam, but don't buy into a new technology like BTC which has imo by now proven itself to be powerful and legit, unlike the next crappy IPO. Honestly it's hard to take articles like this seriously when what's going on is a lot of misdirection. Just my 2c.
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Best Place to Buy Bitcoin (today)?
gdax owns coinbase AFAIK
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: What age do you expect to be able to retire?
Well if bitcoin hits 1M like Mcafee says, 2020....
crypticlizard··on Generate images and video with Deep Dream
yeah, i have mixed feeling about it, sorry i posted it. But the open source projects I've been sifting through are all broken to some extent. I was hoping someone might point out a better option than this closed source :(
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Does microdosing psilocybin help you code? How?
yes and paul stamets on a joe rogan podcast says SV coders are massively using microdosing of LSD as a competitive advantage, that's why I wanted to ask here, as I'm sure someone can chime in on either being around this happening or is doing it.
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: Entrepreneurship to escape depression?
Depressed? Try microdosing shrooms. Might even help get your startup ideas off the ground.
crypticlizard··on Ask HN: What do you use for you personal note taking activity?
Google docs. Sync, offline, voice dictations. I use it many times a day
