cristiantincu··on The story of Signature Plastics
DCS sure are thin, but sound is preference, and so some of us see ABS DCS as the best sounding keycaps on the market.

Custom DCS runs (SolDark, 9009, Reaper, WoB, etc.) in the past few years sold well and are generally appreciated and sought after.

cristiantincu··on Ask HN: I love programming but hate the industry. Can anyone relate?
Been in the software development industry for almost 19 years now. The last five years have been pretty much what you describe. Yes, I can certainly relate. I've been largely driven by passion, but passion is no longer here. And I'm bad at discipline, which should be my new driver now, I guess. :-)
cristiantincu··on Romania orders investigative journalists to disclose sources under GDPR
Muie PSD!
cristiantincu··on “Beautiful” in the Constitution of the Chinese Communist Party
> I don't know why the author thought so deep about it.

Because “beautiful” is a pretty abstract word. It kinda invites to a debate. Don’t you think?

cristiantincu··on “Beautiful” in the Constitution of the Chinese Communist Party
> In conclusion, the newly added měilì 美丽 ("beautiful") in the Party constitution is completely unrelated to the abstract ideal of "beauty" of the Platonic or Aristotelian sort.

This is a pretty interesting remark, in the eyes of a westerner. Care to comment on it?

cristiantincu··on European court rules companies must tell employees of email checks
I was referring to the company (the employer), not the employee. From the article: ”The company had presented him with printouts of his private messages to his brother and fiancée on Yahoo Messenger as evidence of his breach of a company ban on such personal use.“
cristiantincu··on European court rules companies must tell employees of email checks
Hm, no. Long story short:

In order for a company to be allowed to monitor, they would need to pass some kind of audit, they would need to prove that they don’t store, for example, sensitive personal data, etc.

cristiantincu··on Show HN: Fast.js – faster reimplementations of native JavaScript functions
> In fact, native functions often have to cover complicated edge cases from the ECMAScript specification, which put them at a performance disadvantage.

What. Is. This. I don’t even.

cristiantincu··on Fira Sans: a Free, Open Source Typeface Commissioned by Mozilla
The glyphs files are the sources. They can be opened with Glyphs (http://www.glyphsapp.com/).
cristiantincu··on The "Window Resizer" extension for Chrome now contains malware (2013)
Here’s how you disable “EcoLinks” if you have this extension installed and enabled:

chrome-extension://kkelicaakdanhinjdeammmilcgefonfh/ecosia.html

Uncheck “Enable EcoLinks”.

cristiantincu··on The Difficulty Of Private Contact Discovery
> Building a social network is not easy. Social networks have value proportional to their size, so participants aren’t motivated to join new social networks which aren’t already large. It’s a paradox where if people haven’t already joined, people aren’t motivated to join.

Value is relative. For stakeholders, value is indeed given by the network’s size. For users (participants), it’s very debatable whether size equals value. The author seems to be mistaking the two perspectives for a single one. No paradox here.

cristiantincu··on Vim.js - JavaScript port of Vim
Ymacs is written by Mihai Bazon. It has nothing to do with Bellard. http://www.ymacs.org/

Edit: And it’s _written_ in JS, not ported.

cristiantincu··on Fun with JavaScript Arrays
The `for … in` statement iterates over the enumerable properties of an object¹. It’s not for arrays.

cristiantincu··on Mozilla can produce near-native performance on the Web
“Best viewed in Netscape” still wins over “Download for Windows (x86)”.
cristiantincu··on Console.log with style
Yes. So much about differentiation.
cristiantincu··on Console.log with style
What about `console.info()`? Or is it a bit too adventurous?
cristiantincu··on Console.log with style
Yes. It will not break, though.

Unless you’re running it on an old IE that doesn’t host the `window.console` object.

cristiantincu··on Console.log with style
`(new Error()).stack` is non-standard. But that’s a nice hack, nevertheless.
cristiantincu··on Console.log with style
Calling `console.log()` in “production mode” is a bad idea, anyway.

Ideally, you’ll want those calls stripped at some point, in your build script.

cristiantincu··on What’s new in Node v0.10?
“For those looking for commercial support, StrongLoop (Ben Noordhuis & Bert Belder's company) has released a distribution containing node v0.10 that they will support on Windows, Mac, Red Hat/Fedora, Debian/Ubuntu and multiple cloud platforms. You can download their Node distribution here.” —http://blog.nodejs.org/2013/03/11/node-v0-10-0-stable/

cristiantincu··on Free Pascal 2.6.2 is released
Anonymous methods and closures are not the same thing. You may have anonymous methods that don’t access outside scopes, so they’re not creating any lexical closures.

The syntax of anonymous methods is consistent with the overall language syntax. Yes, Pascal has strict types and `begin`… `end` instead of curly braces. It tends to be more verbose than, say, JavaScript.

cristiantincu··on Flight: A lightweight, component-based JavaScript framework from Twitter
Web Components is the storm that will wipe away all these frameworks: Backbone, Ember, Angular, Knockout, etc.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to stick around with them for the following couple of years, probably, as for now, most of the Web Components APIs are available only in Chrome Canary and Firefox dev builds. Monkey-patching (AKA “shimming”) to the rescue…

In my opinion, the more certain nowadays libs resemble the Web Components specs, the more clear the developers’ choice towards those libs should be.

cristiantincu··on Continuum - A javascript ES6 VM
It’s the “playground”. You can play with it here: http://benvie.github.com/continuum/

As for the editor, it’s CodeMirror.

cristiantincu··on The entire win32 API in JavaScript
This is a fine example of what hacking is about.

Thank you for publishing this.

cristiantincu··on Computational Types in C# and F#
Because it’s related to monads and this is HN. ☺
cristiantincu··on Twitter crashes itself with commas
It’s the result of a bug in Opera’s JavaScript interpreter, parsing a minified file. ☺
cristiantincu··on Twitter crashes itself with commas
And we know, as well, that this so-called-argument is an ad hominem attack and a red herring.
