crispyalmond··on Swift Achieved Dynamic Linking Where Rust Couldn't (2019)
Tokamak[0] is really promising on this front

crispyalmond··on Ray tracing Voxels made out of Glass
Same here, I've tried a couple different browsers but none of them worked. I'm on Linux with a fairly recent AMD GPU.
crispyalmond··on 4x4 ASCII Font (2016)
Unifont[0] covers a lot of Unicode codepoints.

crispyalmond··on Notes: Fast note-taking app, open-source, without Electron, built in Qt C++
I didn't know Qt could look like this! Bravo
crispyalmond··on WebKit Features in Safari 16.0
At first I thought you were joking, but this is a very real class! Probably one of the longest I've seen.
crispyalmond··on Show HN: I made a modern web UI for Hacker News
I normally use 160%, I love this site.
crispyalmond··on Godot 4.0 will discontinue visual scripting
Does this mean they are also removing the VisualShader as well? Or purely the scripting part?
crispyalmond··on GraphQL kinda sucks
At my workplace they made this decision before I started and I can fully agree with this. It's essentially a typed REST without any of the benefits. No joins, everything is multiple calls away to perform a "full" query.

I don't even want to think about undoing this mess.

crispyalmond··on GoDaddy locks out derivatives of Chrome
Seconding this. It's the easiest interface I've found by far for domain management. Having only used NameCheap before; it's great. My needs are pretty basic though, just pointing at a couple VPS.
crispyalmond··on Programming Fonts
I've been using this font daily for many months now, fantastic font. It comes at a cost, but it's been worth it for me.
crispyalmond··on Mastering Nim – now available on Amazon
I'd like this too, I'm not one to read a physical book, but I'm constantly reading on my phone & computer
crispyalmond··on Haskell in Production: Channable
What is it that makes it so bad?
crispyalmond··on Show HN: Simple games ported to Scala 3 – Try them in the browser
Just tried on Windows with Edge, and I'm experiencing this as well.
crispyalmond··on “Code” 2nd Edition
Unsure of novice, but I have this book[0] which is pretty great.

crispyalmond··on Clojure isn’t for me (2020)
I prefer to use nbb[0] for this, or babashka[1] when I need to use stuff specific to JVM.

crispyalmond··on pnpm: Fast, disk space efficient package manager for JavaScript
This amazes me as well. At work we have a simple website which has 1 GB of node_modules and the actual source code is well under a megabyte.
crispyalmond··on Show HN: Warp, a Rust-based terminal
Wezterm is the best of the bunch I've tried, but I just keep going back to MATE terminal.
crispyalmond··on Raygui – A simple and easy-to-use immediate-mode GUI library
It does support changing the font
crispyalmond··on Harmonikit: A Clojure library designed to provide an additive synth for overtone
Crazy to see this posted here, you may also find the talk[0] pretty interesting!

crispyalmond··on Plaintext Productivity
My thoughts exactly. Org-mode just works and has so much functionality that I haven't even discovered yet. I am currently using it for notes and TODOs.
crispyalmond··on Meld is a visual diff and merge tool targeted at developers
Do you think the pro version of BeyondCompare is worth it compared to the standard one?
crispyalmond··on Show HN: Berkeley Mono Typeface
I like it, but there's one thing about fonts that always gets me is that it looks better in the pictures than it does in my editors.
crispyalmond··on Show HN: I made a web game called Almost Pong
This is such a good take on a classic. I love it!
crispyalmond··on Security vulnerability in Rust standard library
It's admiring how quickly they fix these. Kudos to the Rust team. But I worry about older software compiled with an older version of Rust which does not have this fixed.
crispyalmond··on Folly: An open-source C++ library developed and used at Facebook
It would be more attractive if it didn't depend on boost.
crispyalmond··on Lua: Good, Bad, and Ugly Parts (2012)
I recently started working at a place which is like this, and the code really shows it. It really does not matter what language is used, it's not going to very maintainable if written so quickly.
crispyalmond··on SpeedCrunch
Looks like my delay happens when converting between units. It's almost like it prompts me to confirm when I press Enter so I end up having to hit it twice. Other than this it is really great.
crispyalmond··on SpeedCrunch
I just installed it to try it out and I love the idea but this is the worst part about it. Even with no history as another said, it still has a delay.
crispyalmond··on SpeedCrunch
How does Numi compare to Soulver 3[0]?

crispyalmond··on Ask HN: Best alternatives to Google Analytics in 2021?
I think this a really good approach. We've done something similar by exposing an endpoint and just PUT data to it from the client when something interesting happens. This works really well and the server is free to do whatever with it.
