So true.
> Some of the space race was driven by Cold War politics.
Is it fairer to say, initiated by? Listen to Michael Collins speak on the first episode of “13 Minutes to the Moon.” “We did it.” The “we” being humanity, not nationalism.
Yes, it started with rivalry, but it lifted humanity’s ceiling. There is a lot wrong with the Apollo story (race, gender), but these issues were a symptom of the time, less a cause. These issues were reckoning against a legacy.
The goal was to show superiority, not leverage it. I wish this was the case for a nation capable of going to the moon today. Instead of leverage against shared and common issues, the goal was to better.
When I saw it, there were narratives about the people behind the shots which made it extra special.
Like the rest of us needing to edit many couple of minutes long videos, there is massive gap in the market for something lighter weight. Look at Capcuts success over Adobe: 200+ million active user per month for Capcut.
I did, and learned a ton, and likely not going back to how I was before, or how I used it a week ago.
The comments in the article about not reading the agent is good but it’s more than that…
Vibe coding is for non-coders. Yet, you get a feel for the vibe of the AI. With windsurf, you have two or three files open, and working in one. It starts smashing out the multi, interspersed, line edits and you know with a flutter of your eyes, it’s got your vibe and correctly predicted your next ten lines. And for a moment you forgive it for leading you astray when you read what it said.
It’s insanely lean to get started. But at the end of the day, its GCP underneath with GCP billing (i.e. no spend caps). The easy mode UX, and the risk of real expenditure, sit in contradiction to each other. Of course, there a very generous free tier to placate that. But things like realtime need to be used with real cost considerations, and not frivolously once you need a feature only available on pay as you go.
We likely agree that firebase is superb. But your criticism of using ‘alternative’ is unjust both in terms of the breadth of firebase, and why a competitor might target someone about to choose Firebase.
Do tell…
The Musk headline was loosely tidied to someone arrested (whilst) praying *outside* and ignores the context of what was happening at the time, and for the many hours before the arrest. Minor details like that.
Happy to live in a legal systems where these devices are banned, and we can cross the road freely.
They may matter like you say in other systems, but they are not the same in all systems.
A little context is necessary.
“Up to” is worth emphasis. Even if in an extreme scenario a 5 year sentence was disbursed only up to 2.5 years would be in prison (and likely far less), automatic release at 2 thirds in the worst case.
But I agree it is helpful to think of quaternions as direction and spin.
For summaries my preference-where I have the option to set it-is for a bullet pointed list over a condensed paragraph. Easier to scan and typically does better at conveying the flow of the source too.
I wonder how many Kindles were hurt during the making of this…
It’s not like it’s hard to quit an app. You push Apple-Q for the app, Apple-W for a window.
What’s the point in having a window if it doesn’t need it. Do I need to check if this is the last window so I don’t lose my download, stop my render, etc. These things bite me on Windows. There is not the one way.
> Since some people perceive discussion quality to be (relatively) high on HN
It’s really not at the moment on so many discussion worthy topics. I get it, there will be the same old tropes and opinions but HN does a great job of cutting through the noise and unveiling interesting perspectives.
I’m surprised and a little disappointed. And left wondering where to find the discussions on such topics that are worth reading.
I keep reading about tech news on websites where I’d have expected so see it here first: that was a reason to ask.
