creaghpatr··on French musician Kavinsky found dead
Loved "Nightcall", shame to lose him. It was a was a happy surprise to see him get a feature at the 2024 closing ceremonies, RIP.
creaghpatr··on Pentagon boasts of using AI to write reports mandated by Congress (1.5mil users)
If so, that would be auditable (in theory; whether it would be audited in practice, probably not).
creaghpatr··on Is "colorectal cancer" rising in "young people"?
His other blog about colonoscopies is even better (linked in the post). Id read them again on other topics.
creaghpatr··on I built an AI receptionist for a mechanic shop
Amazon support does this pretty well with their chat. The agent can pull all the relevant order details before the ticket hits a human in the loop, who appears to just be a sanity check to approve a refund or whatever. Real value there.
creaghpatr··on Golfing Is Not Rowing
>Then there is the true reality unbound by theory like course management is, where if you thin the hell out of that 3 wood it is still going to skip forward at least 130 yards making it a safer shot than the 9 iron with a risk free attempt at the green coupled in.

Yes, I improved when I accepted that the objectively correct decision based on a perfect shot execution was not necessarily the right decision for me. Subtle but crucial distinction I didn't have at the beginning and had to develop with experience.

creaghpatr··on Golfing Is Not Rowing
I loved this. Having recently transitioned from running ultramarathons to trying to break 100 on the course, I figured I already had the discipline to brute force effort my way by hitting balls 4-5 days per week. It wasn't until I worked with a coach and rebuilt my swing from scratch that I began to see any improvement and I actually got worse in the beginning for weeks.

One thing the two sports have in common is that good decision-making has much more leverage than in short distance sports like swimming and shorter road races (and presumably rowing, I wouldn't know). Most of my score improvement in golf so far has been due to making better shot decisions on the course rather than improved shot execution. Feels like a life metaphor in there somewhere but im sensitive about becoming one of those ppl who compare everything in life to golf.

creaghpatr··on How private equity is changing housing
Probably the latter, the appraisal is typically mandated by the bank issuing the mortgage.
creaghpatr··on Lessons from interviews on deploying AI Agents in production
Agree with your prediction in many cases but not bookkeeping. The whole point of bookkeeping is to balance the ledger to the penny so people would toss bookkeeping altogether before accepting a 'probabilistic' output. Agents will be used to accelerate the recon process though, or maybe they will become advanced enough to provide a (correct) deterministic result.
creaghpatr··on Chipotle stock craters: young people without jobs cannot afford their food
Someone tweeted it somewhere, but Chipotle should make a burrito that is half the size and half the price.
creaghpatr··on Meta Ray-Ban Display
Meanwhile, I saw someone using their windshield mounted phone to watch videos while sitting in traffic yesterday (and driving erratically as a result which led me to notice). The self-driving cars can't come soon enough.
creaghpatr··on Uber raises in-office requirement to 3 days, claws back remote workers
Got to enjoy a National Championship though
creaghpatr··on Benchmarking LLM social skills with an elimination game
Would love to see a 'Murder Mystery' format of this.
creaghpatr··on Crew-9 Returns to Earth
I think OP meant relative to the 70s.
creaghpatr··on Google to buy Wiz for $32B
>That data could be fed to GCP sales team though customers might riot if that happens

Large enterprises don't sign the stock terms and conditions that would enable this, most do or should have legal teams redlining contracts around how cloud data is accessed and used by vendors. Maybe Wiz is so good they would agree to it, but it would get challenged and negotiated during the sales cycle.

creaghpatr··on What happens to SaaS in a world with computer-using agents?
The analysts know where the bodies are buried, so to speak. The execs may not even be aware there are bodies.
creaghpatr··on Next stop: Miami
They are frequently spotted but not yet available in ATL.
creaghpatr··on Training myself to run farther with Strava's API and an IoT dog feeder of M&Ms
It can be approximated using your age, HR, efficiency, etc. The treadmill/mask test is more accurate though.
creaghpatr··on Legalizing Sports Gambling Was a Mistake
Not the bettors as much as the organizations facilitating it.
creaghpatr··on CrowdStrike to Delta: Stop pointing at us
More specifically, a huge amount of legal negotiation goes into a B2B SaaS deal between parties of this size up front, incl liability caps, SLAs, and MSA, etc. One of the bigger obstacles in the sales cycle even (getting legal alignment).
creaghpatr··on Schwab users are unable to log in
Except Robinhood halted 24 hr trading last night https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/robinhood-h...
creaghpatr··on Is a 'slow' swimming pool impeding world records?
Thats pretty nice, when I swam the 500 I would have to lift my head to see the lap counter dropping the sign in the pool which messes with your head position
creaghpatr··on If AI chatbots are the future, I hate it
I've found Amazon's customer support bot excellent for teeing up a chat with an actual human support agent. It collects all the context up front so the actual chat is about the substance of the issue. Still need a human for taking follow up actions in most cases though (ie. processing a refund, contacting the seller on your behalf, etc)
creaghpatr··on LockBit claims to exfiltrate 33TB of data from US Federal Reserve
Whenever these groups tout volume of data it seems like a marketing move to compensate for lack of meaningful insights, compromising info, etc
creaghpatr··on ShotSpotter does not reduce gun violence or increase clearance rates
Agree with your first point, but I think most if not all politics boils down to defining what a functioning society looks like.
creaghpatr··on Microsoft Chose Profit over Security, Whistleblower Says
Probably neither, "don't do bribes" training is standard onboarding procedure at any Fortune 500 company. Just ironic timing from OPs POV
creaghpatr··on The right not to be subjected to AI profiling based on publicly available data
Sounds like Crystal https://www.crystalknows.com/
creaghpatr··on Why you can't get a restaurant reservation
I enjoyed the article, a lot of detailed reporting that was refreshingly nonjudgemental (the substance itself is kind of mortifying though but maybe this is more of a NYC thing?).

Side note, the hosts using the nickname "Eagle" for a bald guy is awesome, never heard that one before.

creaghpatr··on Study uses wearables to show that physical activity lengthens REM latency
I enjoyed getting the metrics (not sure how accurate they were) but my garmin is so clunky it's impossible to sleep in. Great for everything else.
creaghpatr··on Jasmin Paris Becomes First Woman to Finish Hardest Race
It's really hard to broadcast on TV because of the logistics and (usually) remote locations. But it would be amazing to watch a 100 miler in Paris or greater France, where they already have a huge ultra scene.
creaghpatr··on What the CEO wants you to know (2023)
Comp is typically aligned to Revenue rather than payment schedule, unless the rep is involved in the A/R process which is unusual but not unheard of. The incentive comes from deal language standards for which exceptions must be approved by senior leaders for things like delayed payments or other arrangements.

In the above scenario, the more likely situation would be the rep goes to bat internally for a 45-day term so they can close a larger or more favorable deal that management will be incentivized to approve.
