crb··on “Twitter has an algorithm that creates harassment all by itself”
There are two tiers of Twitter: the early-adopter tech users, who use third-party API clients like Twitterific and Tweetbot, and everyone else.

The first bucket has a vastly different Twitter experience. As an API client user I have no ads, no polls, no recommendations or friends likes, no "someone you follow replied" experience. Just a timeline of who I choose to follow, the blissful way it always was. No wonder they wanted to shut the API down.

(Apropos of nothing, the first bucket contains all the tech journalists.)

crb··on YouTube Lets Users Override Recommendations After Criticism
I'd be happy if it would stop recommending I watch videos I have already watched all the way through.
crb··on Kubernetes 1.15: Extensibility and Continuous Improvement
Why an "atom" for "adm"? Get ready for another "kube-cuddle" vs "kube-ctl" debate to break out.

This is incredibly confusing to the countries who don't suffer from the /t/ vs /d/ sound (which is described here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flapping).

crb··on HAProxy 2.0
Thoughts on HAProxy vs. Envoy, or as the data plane for a service mesh?

No. We discuss this exact topic with Minikube author Dan Lorenc here: https://kubernetespodcast.com/episode/039-minikube/

crb··on Red Hat contributes etcd to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation
It was proposed in July (https://github.com/cncf/toc/issues/136) and voted on in September (https://github.com/cncf/toc/pull/143), all before the IBM/Red Hat deal was announced or known to the staff.

The announcement was held for publicity at KubeCon.

crb··on Peloton: Uber’s Unified Resource Scheduler for Diverse Cluster Workloads
Nothing in the article about this being open source or available to the public?
crb··on Microsoft is embracing Android as the mobile version of Windows
https://www.zdnet.com/google-amp/article/linux-now-dominates...

"Today, Scott Guthrie, Microsoft's executive vice president of the cloud and enterprise group, said in an interview, "it's about half now, but it varies on the day because a lot of these workloads are elastic, but sometimes slightly over half of Azure VMs are Linux." Microsoft later clarified, "about half Azure VMs are Linux.""

crb··on K3s: Kubernetes without the features I don't care about
I more than get the joke, but I'm worried about the ambiguity of "5 less then k8s. Short for kates, pronounced k8s", and worry that it will stop you from getting successful, if that's your intention.

Are you saying your project is named "kates"? Why not name it something like "Khios", a Greek island, which still lets you keep 'k3s' as your abbreviation?

crb··on Horrors of Using Azure Kubernetes Service in Production
4GB of RAM per machine, or 4GB reservation of a 20GB machine?
crb··on Uber Will Rent Scooters Through Its App in Partnership with Lime
I read that in early June, scooter hire was halted in San Francisco and companies had to apply for licenses, which were expected to be issued by the end of the month. Any update on what is happening there?

crb··on The full-time job of keeping up with Kubernetes
Well, you can trust me that it doesn't, or you can send me your CV for a referral.

Plus, there's this: https://www.quora.com/What-is-Googles-internal-code-review-p.... But you'll just complain that the OWNERS aren't the right people, and I'll just comment that they are.

crb··on Ten Years of Instapaper
It feels odd that the current owners say "we did this, we launched that" in reference to the years Marco ran Instapaper as a sole proprietor, especially given that Marco explicitly uses "I" as the prounoun for Overcast: https://overcast.fm/skeptics_faq
crb··on The full-time job of keeping up with Kubernetes
> The people that work on upstream k8s in Google (Tim et al) have a pretty limited overlap with the Google Cloud people that run GKE.

I happen to be in the building so I sat in on an engineering review for a proposed new GKE feature today. Tim was there, as was Brian Grant, and pretty much everyone else you've heard of (in the room or on the VC). There were also a good number of PMs, SREs, and the leads/engineers working on the GKE machinery.

Thus I have to respectfully disagree.

crb··on Cryptocurrency miners are renting Boeing 747s to ship graphics cards
If people are this serious, why don't they just set up their mining operation next door to the factory?

crb··on Microsoft is Hiring Go engineers to work on Kubernetes
Deis wrote Helm v1 (now known as Helm Classic: https://github.com/helm/helm-classic).

Deis and Google (as well as others) collaborated on the current v2, building on Google's open source Deployment Manager (which you can see at https://github.com/gabrtv/deployment-manager) - itself derived from Google's Cloud Deployment Manager (https://cloud.google.com/deployment-manager/)

The good thing about open source is, it doesn't really matter who wrote it.

What's going on at Ars Technica? Between this (a straight-up repeat from 2012 with no obvious reason to bring it back now), and reblogging Jimmy Maher's Digital Antiquarian articles from the same time frame (see https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/06/ibm-pc-history-part-... and http://www.filfre.net/2012/05/the-ibm-pc-part-1/), have they cut their budget for new writing?
