cpursley··on Show HN: AI search for every photo and every frame of video on macOS
Fair enough, but seriously, my machine has taken a beating by all these JavaScript and electron thingies.
cpursley··on Show HN: AI search for every photo and every frame of video on macOS
Why is this a JS bloatware instead of native or Rust which is easier than ever now with LLM coding tools.
cpursley··on On social reality in China
Say that all you want, make it a mantra if you like. But have you ever skipped a meal out of sheer poverty? Or might you be projecting ethics (ie aka Americanism)? Maybe we should actually cut them some slack.
cpursley··on DeepSeek Harness Desktop for macOS and Windows
No rustie, no installie. Got enough bloat electron and node bloat, already.
cpursley··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Is slopcop your domain, because that is awesome. Wishing you great success with it.
cpursley··on The Murky History of Soviet-Born Tetris
As a Russian programmer, certainly you are aware of Elektronika 60 and Dorodnitsyn Computing Center? Regarding я, it is the same shape as R but backwards and feels exotic, nothing too complex there.
cpursley··on I'm the mom in that viral Giants clip. Let me tell you about my husband
And every man as well (all the usual stereotypes, slurs, expectations non-stop), but men don’t complain, shrug, and carry on with our duties and hope she doesn’t get board and take half or more.
cpursley··on Topcoat is pushing the boundary of server applications with Rust
Go use Java then.
cpursley··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Americans didn’t mind buying German and Japanese cars pretty soon after the war.
cpursley··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
I really don’t think the legacy Japanese or the American auto makers get it. People don’t want goofy offshot designs for their EV’s. They want regular ass looking cars.
cpursley··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
I think there's actually something to it: https://x.com/josevalim/status/2019422467446698493
cpursley··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
I've been using Rust more and more for specific tasks in my Elixir saas app, the two play really well together.
cpursley··on Starlink ground station in Poland hit by fire in suspected arson attack
> Palintir and Starlink are both private companies, not NATO.

Yeah, no. That is not how it works, American private companies are not just allowed to provide weapons of war without executive approval. If you remember, Trump is the one who removed Biden's ban on providing them targeting and the intel to hit Russia directly. The entire "Zelensky, please stopping hitting Russian diesel production" Trump thing is just an act - the US holds the keys to their (and the UK/EU, for that matter) ISR feeds.

cpursley··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
Yes, I want to murder all the little animals because I enjoy a real burger or vegetation Indian meal over highly processed fake meat...
cpursley··on Starlink ground station in Poland hit by fire in suspected arson attack
This is well beyond arms supplies, NATO is running their entire ISR and targeting show and quite vocal about it. Plantar, Starlink on drones etc. and that’s ignoring financing and production. If anything, the Russian response has been quite flaccid.
cpursley··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
Yeah, tofu is not even in the same class as the synthetic burgers. Take a second and go read their ingredient lists. I’m gonna go with the Indian or falafel meal, which happens to be delicious. Which I think is the choice consumers are making.
cpursley··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
What about the health nastiness that comes along with ultra processed food? Why not just go full blown veggie or vegan? Theres some amazing recipes out there that are healthy as well.
cpursley··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
Is it just pure lobbying or perhaps also consumer preference? Because there’s plenty of money to be made across the entire agriculture and food and production spectrum in the processing of the goop that goes into these types of products. I think a lot of people honestly would rather eat a real vegetarian diet (Indian, etc) than the ultra processed soy beans and various chemical binders wearing a meat Halloween costume.
cpursley··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
Not sure why you're getting downvoted, the Rust based tui's absolutely smoke Claude Code.
cpursley··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
But I'm not talking about morality or any of that, but targeting hygiene. Folks are viewing what is effectively the same kind of event through specific lenses colored by how they feel about who the aggressor/victim nation is. Both situations are using the same ISR and targeting platforms (who's sats and tech do think is running the show in Ukraine when it comes to the intel and targeting?).

In the past, when a friend of mine was in military targeting in the Middle East, they needed 3 separate human verifications before green light was given - it was pretty serious stuff. Seems like that is no longer happening - AI calling the shots, leading to collateral damage that humans could have pretty easily verified. Iran was a bit more difficult, but the data was certainly there.

cpursley··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
Iran didn’t field S-400s and those nor Patriots are for shooting down drones.
cpursley··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
Thank you for reminding me about these posts, time has proved my statements true. Especially after the Iran war exposed these outdated systems via direct hits on US bases, which can't be narrative'd away like in Ukraine.

cpursley··on KDE turns 30 and someone's brought an AI-native desktop proposal
Jake, non super-nerd in Ohio, never picked up Linux because they either never heard of it or the barrier to entry was to complex. Basic-ass stuff like drivers not working, etc - going on for decades now. Then along comes a personality like DHH who created an opinionated setup and now Jake has Linux on his computer for the first time ever. And now a bunch of people have been attracted to and have started hacking on linux, getting driver support working which is good for the entire Linux community - see the list here for ARM support: https://omarchy.org/news/2026/09/introducing-omarchy-dragon
cpursley··on KDE turns 30 and someone's brought an AI-native desktop proposal
DHH having to deal with gatekeeping attitudes like this and particular political prerequisites is the reason he created these “dotfiles” in the first place. I actually know several people who are not very technical and never Linux users who installed and switched to it as their main operating system. So I think what’s actually going on here is a lot of people are butt hurt that this is getting attention and having success when nobody else has before has.
cpursley··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
What nonsense. Plenty of nations brag about their drinking prowess, have you ever met a Fin or a Swede, Irish, Bostonian? The worst behaving drinkers I've ever been around are the British.

cpursley··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
I think there’s actually a direct correlation of people wearing these athletic shoes, especially the really expensive fancy ones in public places and actually not being in shape. It’s pretty funny. People who are truly into athletics or generally wear those shoes only in the particular setting i.e. trail running, in the gym, etc., and then switch into normal shoes.
cpursley··on Show HN: ResolveHQ – A Helpdesk Built on Cloudflare Workers, D1, R2 and Queues
This is neat, might give it a spin. I've had little luck getting good results from AI bots no matter how grounded they are with good quality context and examples. I actually decided to just build a dead-simple support chat that pipes into Telegram which has worked great for my simple saas support use case. If anyone wants access, just let me know: https://goodsupport.dev
