cprecioso··on Tell HN: Cloudflare is blocking Pale Moon and other non-mainstream browsers
This would be weird, esp. given that Cloudflare is one of the vendors who act as exit nodes for iCloud Relay.
cprecioso··on Are Immutable Linux Distros right for you?
For CoreOS, you can create immutable images as easily as you can create Docker containers: https://coreos.github.io/rpm-ostree/container/ You can later just point the installer to your OCI image and it will just work

It really reminds me of LiveScript's "back-calls" [1], which were a solution for callback hell in JS.

cprecioso··on Documentation for the JSON Lines text file format
JSON has always accepted "bare" values (try JSON.parse in the browser devtools). In the space, a valid json document is any of those "bare" values, or an array or object of those. All of the answers in your linked StackOverflow also mention this.

For example, the spec explainer at https://www.json.org/ (on the righ-hand), tells you that a `json` document is an `element`, which is a `value` surrounded by any or no whitespace. This `value` can be a literal, or an object or array.

For an (IMO) easier definition, you can check how JSON values are usually defined in TypeScript e.g. https://github.com/sindresorhus/type-fest/blob/main/source/b...

I found that, to be really effective, you need to import the transactions from your bank somehow. I use YNAB to have it automatic, but you can also manually export/import CSVs from your bank (I used to do that before they supported EU banks).
cprecioso··on Candle Finance – Save time and money by automating your financial accounts
I’d love to know an app like this that works with banks from the EU, or at least Spain (not only aggregation, but moving money as well, and the SDK is icing on the cake).

Doesn't the idiom "girls do not exist on the internet" itself point to the "standard" that, in this circles, men think of the people are interacting with as men, as "default", and the not-default is women. And we come back to the invisibilization of people who are not a white young guy in tech.

I'd wish to get as far away as possible from such an attitude, and thus really enjoy when I see people outside of this "norm" to make themselves known and attract more heterogenous people that can enrich the community.

cprecioso··on GitHub merge queue is generally available
I would love to use this at $daywork, but it has the unfortunate limitation that the merge group needs to pass the same checks as the branch itself, making it doubly expensive (esp. with something like Chromatic that is susceptible to flakiness and might need manual approval).

I would love to be able to set different sets of checks that need to pass to add a PR to a merge group, and to the merge group itself to be merged, so we can better manage speed and cost.

I really love a detail in Vercel’s webpage, if you right click on the logo, it offers you a link to go to the press kit page.
cprecioso··on Update on Sharing
Moreover I don’t see how this is really an update on anything, they’re not saying “this is how it was done and how it will be done now”, they’re just stating things as matter of fact, which makes it difficult to know exactly what they’re changing.
cprecioso··on Set Up a Dev Drive on Windows 11 (Public Preview)
Interesting that a Dev Drive is a place for trusted files in a system, and immediately they recommend putting there all the caches for the often unvetted and expansive third party packages from npm.

Not wanting to disregard your pint, but there are definitely applications in SVG. The user interface for the most famous kitchen “robot” (Thermomix) is done entirely in SVG, and they (through open source consultants Igalia) are one of the most important contributors to SVG and Canvas functionality in WebKit.

cprecioso··on Infinitely Nested Window Management
There is some previous art in mainstream OS’s about this, and it was all as great as you put it tbh

macOS made the tabbing native by giving windows (only of the same app) the ability to get merged into a single window with a tab bar (in Sierra https://www.macworld.com/article/228274/how-to-use-tabs-in-m...). It all has the same behaviors as Safari, including the one of “popping out” a tab into its own window. Apps that use the native window controls and the native window lifecycle manager get it for free and by default, but there is no way to get it otherwise (AFAIK), and apps can opt-out.

Windows 10 had this feature for a while in the Insiders build, called “Sets” (https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/11/tabs-come-to-every-w...), which made every window available to be tabbed together with any other window, from any app, no specific code or framework necessary. It worked very well and was neat af, but it got scrapped :( https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-shelves-windows-10-...

There is a reimplementation of this by Stardock https://www.stardock.com/products/groupy/

On a personal note, I’ve been using Arc’s implementation of Spaces and Tabs, and it feels super natural and productive. With some tweaking, I think this would be a great UX for window managers, and I’ve found myself really needing it for my whole OS. Maybe Stage Manager can get there at some point (although right now it is bad as hell).
