cowardlydragon··on How automakers can drive electrified vehicle sales and profitability
How hard is it to spin off / startup a separate EV company?
cowardlydragon··on How automakers can drive electrified vehicle sales and profitability
Fine, then. Wind at night

And they are ceding all of it to Tesla.

I'm just fine with gas taxes covering EVs until a carbon tax can be imposed.
cowardlydragon··on The woes of Windows 10
Android and iOS have probably surpassed windows in number of consumer installations.

The PC will be invaded by Android at some point, and it will be like a blitzkreig when it happens. Google would make all their money back shortly off of appstore sales.

cowardlydragon··on How Children Lost the Right to Roam in Just 4 Generations
It must be the turrists.
cowardlydragon··on How Children Lost the Right to Roam in Just 4 Generations
I think most of this is the one-child family effect.

You have three or four kids and one gets lost.... well, it is a tragedy, but you still have kids.

You have one kid, and it's all your eggs (mostly literally) in one basket.

cowardlydragon··on Hollywood as We Know It Is Over
So, the economics aren't different for Netflix et al?

maybe you need to get back in with them

cowardlydragon··on Hollywood as We Know It Is Over
Based on the article, he shouldn't be talking to Hollywood, he should be talking to Google/Amazon/Netflix/Microsoft/Facebook.

They don't give a rats ass about reputation if you deliver what they need.

cowardlydragon··on Hollywood as We Know It Is Over
CGI exists for international viewers...

Who can't appreciate nuanced localized plotlines.

cowardlydragon··on Tesla Model S: the story of a very short happiness and excitement
Except all support people know about PEBKAC.

This isn't the usual holier-than-thou I did noth-ingggg! bad review.

But it's always hard to know....

cowardlydragon··on Tesla Model S: the story of a very short happiness and excitement
Ehh, but fundamentally its just 1-2 motors and a big battery.

No alternator, fuel injection, radiator fluid, oil, pistons, spark plugs, fuel pumps, exhaust, manifolds, shafts, rods, gears, blowers, turbos/superchargers, catalytic converters, etc.

Not saying it's easy as described with unstable lithium chemistry, and its own heat dissapation problems, but MECHANICALLY it is fundamentally simple.

cowardlydragon··on Tesla Model S: the story of a very short happiness and excitement
The supercharger network is a huge advantage.

All the other EVs are basically limited to local driving.

cowardlydragon··on How quickly can you remove spaces from a string?
ASCII/1 byte characters? I stopped reading then.

UNICODE or GTFO.

Should be embarassingly parallel for a contiguous array.

cowardlydragon··on How Discord Stores Billions of Messages Using Cassandra
These people are still commenting on use cases that clearly don't apply to them? I realize the Lords of Data like to lock themselves in their Oracle-built towers, lock away your data and access, and then every once in a while issue a fiat...

But you'd think they'd read about CAP theorem and cloud architectures while they're hiding from everyone.

cowardlydragon··on Saving obsolete jobs
Obsolescence is inevitably from a given philosphical point of view.

Capitalist economics with 3-month lead times is just one.

cowardlydragon··on Obama Commutes Bulk of Chelsea Manning’s Sentence
We are effectively in a post-constitutional era...

It's been a grey area with NSA spying and many other federal overreaches for a while, but with Trump it's official.

cowardlydragon··on Obama Commutes Bulk of Chelsea Manning’s Sentence
Oh, is it time to talk about cowardly people and the Iraq/Afghanistan war?
cowardlydragon··on Obama Commutes Bulk of Chelsea Manning’s Sentence
7 years isolation, not just 7 years
cowardlydragon··on The Problem with AMP
I think I was trapped on one of these AMP pages when I wanted an article and the link to it so I could send it to a friend, but the article was "trapped" with a google url and I couldn't get it.

It was like those old-school days where sites tried to put their frame around the window you were browsing so their ads constantly showed.

Or like the toolbar crapware.

This sucks.

cowardlydragon··on I bought some call options and they appreciated 3309%
It's like the old adage:

Gamblers only talk about their wins.

cowardlydragon··on Yahoo SEC Filing: Name change to Altaba Inc and director resignations
I would like yahoo to go screw itself for one specific reason:

Microsoft had offered its war chest to buy them, and yahoo turned them down. It had a good chance of bringing down Microsoft in the long run, and yahoo would have done a solid for the world.

But they turned them down. The ONE TIME I want a goddamn company executive leadership to take the money and run, and they didn't.

cowardlydragon··on Is the MMORPG Dying?
Procedural generation and perhaps some better AI will help a lot. No Man's Sky was basically just a crude demo.

AI bots where you can model actual game theories, and dare I say, philosophies, of people would be really cool, and I think would just take some investment from a visionary company.

cowardlydragon··on Alphabet’s Waymo Cuts Cost of Key Self-Driving Sensor by 90%
How about someone solves the way-easier problem of boring highway driving first?

I don't understand why the full monty has to be in version 1.0. Give me a good automation on the low hanging fruit, and let convergent evolution of society, infrastructure, and technology iterate to the more difficult use cases.

cowardlydragon··on Alphabet’s Waymo Cuts Cost of Key Self-Driving Sensor by 90%
Chevy doesn't have an intercity fast charge network. Tesla will win any buying decision with a manufacturer that doesn't have one, or until a sufficient national vendor-independent network appears.
cowardlydragon··on Dell unveils 8K 32-inch monitor at CES 2017
What the hell, the ideal size for 4k resolution scaled from a 30" 2560x1600 is about 40".

What is with these small 8k/4k monitors? Useless. I just buy TVs with HDMI 2.0. 50" 4k tvs are, what, $400 these days?

I get more pixels can be nice, and 8k is probably where that comes into play, but if I have 8,192 lines of resolution, I want some screen real estate too.

cowardlydragon··on Attachment theory is having a breakout moment
Or, perhaps we (the United States) as a society shouldn't be stressing out mothers in the critical first year by shoving them back to work after, what, three months (if you have good bennies)?

Or completely drain our social welfare system and establish a demand-starved economy with wealth inequality and a draconian health care system that leaves all families stressed and overworked?

Or we can go with your bullshit predetermined social darwinianism.

cowardlydragon··on Learning to code at 56
Yes they are hard at work:

- destroy the housing market... check - ruin higher education... check - destroy democracy ... check - bankrupt social security and medicare... in progress, but basically a foregone conclusion - destroy all jobs for the current generation ... check
