I'm still thinking about this comment 2 hours later, so I thought I would chime in. If you and your friends/family think $5.5M liquid is not enough to retire, I just want you to know, that you are in a very very elite and strange SV bubble. I don't live in SV, but I too know people with your net worth in SV, and they all act like they are poor and what they have is never enough.

For this alone, I'd urge you to expand your horizons, maybe when you retire move out of SV or just spend time with people outside your circle.

I am currently using ChatGPT 4.0o to help me learn Japanese. If you have learned Japanese in the past, you know that the Genki textbooks are invaluable learning resources. The problem is that it's hard to find the motivation to work through a textbook and workbook alone.

I am navigating through a textbook with the audio feature. I take photos of the pages with my phone, then use ChatGPT as my language partner to work through the problem sets. When i switch to the notebook, i complete the work and then take another photo of it and have ChatGPT verify my work.

I agree with Gates here -- if you are motivated this changes the education game.

Sam Altman tried something. ScarJo filed a lawsuit. ChatGPT took down the voice. That's it guys. The system worked like it should. But to suggest that he's a terrible person because of it is just beyond me. This is hardly a #MeToo type situation. She's a rich and famous Hollywood actor. She's OK.

The Apple M1 is also an ergonomic choice for me, as the new keyboards are much easier on the hands.

I'm surprised to see so much love for CouchDB in this thread. I don't think it's been widely adopted in corporate america and has lost the war to MongoDB closed source or not.

I joined a company where it's being used backing a mobile app with couch/pouch in production. We can't wait to get off of it. Writes are slow. Reads are worse. Having a DB per user is a scaling and backup nightmare. If you run into any issues, it's a ghost town.

I'm glad the CouchDB Team is forging ahead, but who is really using this database?
