corvoson The dangers of high status, low wage jobs

sounds like you're missing the point of crypto. it's not about the data management, I think some ETH clients use postgres internally, the blockchain as a network is about removing central coordinators and trust assumptions (including ones we take for granted in our society)

forks set their genesis state as a snapshot of a block on the original chain. if anything you now have twice as much money since your account has funds on the old chain and the new one

corvoson Ask HN: I'm a poor developer, what now?

I've found learning new things can be very difficult and have definitely at times felt the same way you do.

One thing that has helped motivate me was to work with other people that have similar goals. I don't know if you have any friends or peers that you can collaborate on projects with but a more relaxed environment where multiple people share a common goal in learning has helped me to overcome personal struggles.

corvoson Tumblr will ban all adult content on December 17th

4chan just split the SFW parts into 4channel for advertiser reasons, so its clearly a feasible idea

corvoson Tumblr will ban all adult content on December 17th

not so much about protecting us as making sure that the content that advertisers get shown next to is "safe" and "brand friendly"

corvoson Maybe We All Need a Little Less Balance

Generally a good article but I think the author struggles too much with something that isn't that difficult. If you really enjoy something then won't you naturally pursue it? Of course, you love it. If you have multiple things you love you'll pursue multiple things, dividing your time between them. IF you hate something then the only reason you would give it time is because there's something you don't hate about it.

This isn't that difficult, its really just intuitive.

corvoson Trust in Automation

This is something I've thought about. If AI creates post-scarcity paradise what do people do? Automation could theoretically create unlimited luxuries particularly suited to you but then you just become a blob hitting the pleasure button, fun for a while but ultimately unfulfilling. People find joy where they will, I for one praise our incoming AI overlords and welcome their arrival with open arms!

corvoson Everyone is a CEO

"waste time at a party" - CMON, I get the point he's making, but like, parties ARE fun. Reading about the life of a character in a book will never replace living a life in first person.

corvoson Pause, We Can Go Back

not necessarily. Most of the people commenting here seem to agree the relentless march of technology is good and desirable. It's probably just old people that don't. I work part time at a drug store and people over 50 constantly make comments about "that new chip card" or "this computer age". I always pin it on lack of adaptability and then make a joke about it on r/lewronggeneration or something

corvoson Pause, We Can Go Back

haha but adblock got the rest of us covered

corvoson Pause, We Can Go Back

I agree with you that digital has expanded my ability to enjoy music. When I read the line "Spotify shows people coming back to the same tunes over and over" I was surprised. I'm probably younger than you, I only had a few CD's before I started listening to all my music on an iPod Shuffle in Jr. High but I remember being elated to buy 20 new songs on iTunes and listen to them over and over. After making the jump to Spotify and later Apple Music I've found the desire to seek out new music grow exponentially, in fact I almost never come back to the same music, I can't help but find new songs

The other side is that sites like Soundcloud are a godsend for bedroom producers. I've found an incredible diversity of sounds from there also
