cornercasechase··on July 2023 was the hottest month on record
Twitter sorts all the blue checkmarks to the top so on a thread like this you get blasted with all of Elon’s fan boys who are notorious for both their idiotic takes and their disdain for NASA since they think Space X is superior. It’s like the perfect storm for stupidity.
cornercasechase··on Twitter's response to US Government search warrant (turned over deleted DMs) [pdf]
Government handouts, SEC looking the other way, investment, pressure on media outlets that report on Musk/Tesla/Space X.
cornercasechase··on PSA: Intel Graphics Drivers Now Collect Telemetry by Default
I’m sure the versions in AUR are up to date.
cornercasechase··on PSA: Intel Graphics Drivers Now Collect Telemetry by Default
How is an amazing, advanced, free design program “useless”? If you can’t dictate the tools you use at work you should find a new job.
cornercasechase··on PSA: Intel Graphics Drivers Now Collect Telemetry by Default
You can use Krita! It’s legitimately very good.
cornercasechase··on PSA: Intel Graphics Drivers Now Collect Telemetry by Default
The “year of the desktop” implies a solution for consumers, not professionals. That being said for almost every other kind of development Linux is by far the best platform. I cannot develop on Mac anymore due to Apple making things more difficult in every update.
cornercasechase··on Twitter (X) is going to take my username @sports, any ideas how I might keep it?
Quit, tell your friends to quit, then spend time raising awareness around all/any of Musks many fraudulent statements and corrupt actions. Especially wrt TSLA.
cornercasechase··on Google’s Plan to DRM the Web Goes Against Everything Google Once Stood For
You’re correct, they’ve always been super shady:

cornercasechase··on Universal and transferable adversarial attacks on aligned language models
OpenAI has blocked numerous jailbreaks (despite claiming their model is unchanged). How hard would it be for them to plug this. Also, what’s the nature of this attack? It’s really unspecific in the article.
cornercasechase··on Fierce Nerds
Why’s that? Nothing wrong with being a “nerd” (other than it’s a term no one uses anymore). I’m a nerd! The problem is with being a billionaire, corruption and centralization of power.
cornercasechase··on Fierce Nerds
> Recently getting rich became one of them: 7 of the 8 richest people in America are now fierce nerds.

And we’ve seen this is a huge problem. How many of those 7 have Jeffery Epstein connections? How many are manipulating our media and government?

Sadly the nerds turned out to be just as villainous as the old guard, only now they’ve got scale beyond imagination due to technology.

cornercasechase··on Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’
Why would you be incredulous? Musk himself has been accused of sexual assault. He’s literally being subpoenaed in the case against Epstein. He’s been to parties with Epstein and Maxwell and he went to his mansion after he was convicted of raping a minor (a fact mentioned in the very link you posted):

cornercasechase··on Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’
> you do realize that most of the world doesnt live in cities, and therefore has has to own a car

You do realize that most of the people in the world do not own cars and it would be an ecological disaster if they transitioned to owning them.

cornercasechase··on Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’
> Epstein flight logs with the other billionaires.

Musk has multiple Epstein connections including having gone to his house, he’s exactly like the other billionaires.

cornercasechase··on Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’
> We’ve seen it in his prior reversals, when fortunes at his firms were down and he changed course savvily.

More like when he gets called out on his lies and abuse, he buries what he previously said. When was the last time he talked about Hyperloop? Did he ever apologize to the person he accused of being a pedo? Robotaxis?

He lies to pump his stock or ego, then hopes people forget what he said. That’s not “savvy”, it’s just sleazy.

cornercasechase··on Bun v0.7.0
I know you took a lot of heat for tweeting about only hiring people who are willing to over-work. Do you regret that and is it still your policy?
cornercasechase··on Pentagon AI more ethical than adversaries’ because of ‘Judeo-Christian society’
Remind me again how many wars the US has started under false pretenses? How many groups the CIA has trained in torture? Napalm, MKUltra, Henry Kissinger, support for various fascist and apartheid regimes…

Even Hitler was inspired by the US’s successful genocide of the indigenous population. Not to mention slavery!

The US has absolutely no moral high ground from which to preach.

cornercasechase··on Use multiple Git SSH identities on a single computer
> npm install -g gitid

Please don’t write command line tools in javascript. I’d never install npm, yarn… on my system just to try a tool out. CLI tools are perfect for compiled languages so you can distribute a binary.

cornercasechase··on Why the Remote-Work Debate Stays So Heated
I didn’t say anything about the amount of code. I’m talking about people who produce value without fuss and hand holding.
cornercasechase··on Why the Remote-Work Debate Stays So Heated
> There obviously is an advantage to in-person collaboration. There obviously is an advantage to building relationships with co-workers. There obviously is an advantage to letting a junior hire shadow you in person.

Is any of that “obvious”? It goes against everything I’ve seen in my career. The least productive people are those that “build relationships” in the office. The most productive are those who crank out code from home with little to no fuss. I’ve also seen juniors excel remotely because they have the space to research whatever they need and in a remote environment, often feel more comfortable reaching out to senior people for help than the would irl.

cornercasechase··on Electric Vehicles for Everyone? The Impossible Dream
Sounds nice! But of course not necessary when you have high speed rail.
cornercasechase··on Electric Vehicles for Everyone? The Impossible Dream
> No, it does not outweigh the emissions of the vehicle over its lifetime.

Do you have some data to back this up? It seems very unlikely that you’d save an entire vehicle’s worth of ecological destruction by moving from ICE to power plant.

The real answer is walkways, bike paths, public transportation, trains, remote work and to turn all of our freeways into green spaces.

cornercasechase··on B.C. government hit tweet limit amid wildfire evacuations
It’s barely capitalism. A guy who made his money with government handouts and bribing the SEC so he can commit fraud used his ill gotten gains to purchase a profitable company. Then he burned that company to the ground and made it permanently unprofitable. It’s capitalism in its most distorted sense.
cornercasechase··on Debate over 'fake work' and 'lazy management' in tech industry
Is there really a “debate” over “fake work”, or is that just some made up term a clueless and unethical VC tweeted?

There’s been a hard push from capital to put pressure on labor. All these fantasy stories about “fake work”, “people working two jobs”… are all just cover stories for capital and execs to ramp up the pressure and punitive actions. I’m sure BusinessInsider is more than happy to play along. While this article may look pro-labor in the surface, it’s trying to legitimize concepts that are very much pro-capital.

cornercasechase··on The idea maze for AI startups (2015)
Chris Dixon just spent 2 years investing in and hyping NFTs. AI is a legitimate innovation that can do without all of the “Web3” con artists driving any aspect of it.

cornercasechase··on JP Morgan fined by SEC for deleting email records
> JMPC is no longer under investigation for Epstein.

Yes they are, JPMC is still being sued by the Virgin Islands government. They have a settlement that still needs to be approved with the victims.

cornercasechase··on AI Workbooks – A notebook interface for LLMs, image and audio models
I notice that the python community seems to love workbooks/notebooks but I have to say as a non-python dev, they drive me up the wall. I just want to deal with “regular” code and not have an entire gui environment with code and text intermingling somewhere in the cloud.

I think AI really needs a de-pythoning in general.

cornercasechase··on Ask HN: OpenAI does have a moat. Why do people think it doesn't?
OpenAI’s models were a joke too, until they weren’t. It’s just a matter of time until the open source models catch up.
cornercasechase··on Researchers warn of ‘model collapse’ as AI trains on AI-generated content
But the output of the LLM is trained on a synthesis of multiple inputs. Even if every input has information loss, new and novel combinations can be created. I imagine it’s the same for humans since we have lossy memory.
cornercasechase··on Reddit CEO Says Mods Too Powerful, Plans to Weaken After Blackout
I vote with my feet. I don’t use Twitter anymore because of Musk and now I won’t use Reddit because of spez. Tbh, it feels great getting these sites out of my life.
