coretx··on Captive Portal IPv6 Support
All the details can be found in the EUROPOL publications begging for it to be banned.
coretx··on Captive Portal IPv6 Support
CGNAT is ok for IPV4 because it provides us some level of protection against state ( sponsored ) actors.
coretx··on Lead drinking-water pipes must be replaced nationwide, EPA says
This makes me think of the Roman Empire.
coretx··on SnowflakeOS: Beginner friendly and GUI focused NixOS variant
Tax exempt non-profit is what i meant. It insinuates to exist for public interest, not profit. Usually a foundation.
coretx··on Stop Killing Games – European Citizens' Initiative
Not only that, it's capital destruction too. It shrinks your economy. Not to be confused with creative destruction.
coretx··on SnowflakeOS: Beginner friendly and GUI focused NixOS variant
Start & sell as a charity, cash in as a commercial enterprise. The #1 scam in vogue right now.
coretx··on How great was the Great Oxidation Event?
That won't make much of a difference since we are already killing this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phytoplankton and that will be the end, but you won't be able to wait for it. Maybe your grandchildren will.
coretx··on The Mafia of Pharma Pricing
"Intellectual property", specifically patents are the elephant in the room. Even if the mafia would want to have a healthy market, there won't be one because you can't when there is monopolies in place.

Societies can research, speculate, mitigate and regulate until the end of times for as long as the underlying fundamentals of the problems are never addressed.

coretx··on Xpra: Persistent Remote Applications for X11

coretx··on Boeing to plead guilty to criminal fraud charge stemming from 737 MAX crashes
Law/legal philosophy indeed is different everywhere... Where i'm at, I was always told that the primary purpose of the process is to deter and prevent the crime from ever happening again.

In this particular Boeing case, I bet my ass that the corporate world is taking notes as the plea deal is a sweet deal; thus a incentive is provided to do the crime. It would be funny if the victims of the next Boeing sue over inciting the crime they will be a victim of.

coretx··on Boeing to plead guilty to criminal fraud charge stemming from 737 MAX crashes
Plea deals rob victims from the truth they need for closure and recovery. On top of that, plea deals also undermine public trust in the rule of law. I wonder how "happy" the Judge is for being forced to give it credibility...
coretx··on Pharma firms stash profits in Europe's tax havens

coretx··on Pharma firms stash profits in Europe's tax havens
No, because patients deserve the best or most effective drug, not the cheapest. Unless you'd like to put a price on human life that is. Also, meds don't hit the market before they are tested... Testing meds is part of the resource allocation problems because cheap & effective off-label use won't be researched & tested because there is not enough money to be made...
coretx··on Pharma firms stash profits in Europe's tax havens
Patents are a monopoly. Efficient resource allocation is therefore impossible.
coretx··on Pharma firms stash profits in Europe's tax havens
The WTO/TRIPS treaty already allows for governments to issue compulsory licenses in case of a national emergency. This also explains why some firms where so "nice" during the pandemic, as they feared it. See https://www.wto.org/english/tratop_e/trips_e/public_health_f... for details. Obviously, it does not suffice but at least it's something.

coretx··on Swiss Broadcasting Corporation to pull plug on FM radio
DAB is optimized for "rights holders". Not for radio stations, not for end users, not for the state. It's designed against everyone but the rights holder / copyrights industry interests.
coretx··on Swiss Broadcasting Corporation to pull plug on FM radio
It's worse on purpose. They did not even try to be "modern". Here you can read what it's about: https://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_ts/102300_102399/102367/01...
coretx··on Swiss Broadcasting Corporation to pull plug on FM radio
That's done on purpose so that they can roll out conditional access / DRM. In order to make people pay for that, they need to be invested in hardware first ( DAB radios ) and suffer from poor quality channels.... DAB is optimized to make money, not to serve the general public.
coretx··on Ask HN: Is data privacy just all talk or does it affect your decisions?
Your argument puts the world upside down. Non supported hardware/platforms have limited support for the latest hard & software security features. Pixels simply lag least behind the curb compared to other devices. And if Google, Qualcomm or Intel for that matter where to be trusted they would have made onto the Wassenaar lists as Dual-Use goods already. There are limits to as far as you can go.
coretx··on Ask HN: Books or Paper which helped you develop reasoning skills
Here you go, Ethics by Benedict de Spinoza. https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3800 <-- Free & legal download.
coretx··on Netflix's bet on advanced video encoding
Decreasing the gamut before encoding is not my definition of "advanced video encoding". I"d like to call it "ghetto video encoding" instead. What bothers me most about it, is that many people are slowly getting used to it. It also makes me feel sorry for the people who worked hard on the production. Very few people will ever see the true quality of their work.
coretx··on Ask HN: Is data privacy just all talk or does it affect your decisions?
If you can't attack their code/work, you attack the person ? Atleast one of their devs is being gangstalked by Kiwifarms and has powerfull adversaries in the weapons industry who work against him and his work. Please be careful with your criticism because there is entire troll-farms/PR-bureaus out to hurt them. Glowies are probably not happy with them either, so that's a tough world they live in .
coretx··on Ask HN: Is data privacy just all talk or does it affect your decisions?
If you have your mail server in order, think SPF, DKIM/DMARC, this rarely if ever happens and when it does you will be notified. These days, i know more private individuals who configured their mail server well than that i know businesses who do.
coretx··on Hacking eInk Price Tags (2021)
Bookmarked for future reference! Awesome work.

Furrtek has been playing with those things too. Maybe he knows things you don't and vice versa. https://github.com/furrtek/PrecIR

coretx··on Mozilla's Original Sin
Its /not/ (only) external, as your "disabled" in the same sentence already implies. Fundamental changes have been made that transfer power from the end user to elsewhere without end user consent nor them understanding the scope and meaning of the problem at hand. This transfer was ( partially ) forced by third parties not acting in the end user or Mozillas interest; in fact the opposite is true. Not only damages technical in nature where dealt, but also in terms of good name & reputation since the adversary made Mozilla squander their responsibilities and by extension betray their relationship with the end users. This is a textbook example of howto drive any organization into the ground.
coretx··on Ask HN: How many AGI researchers have/are studying philosophy seriously?
If someone demeans the importance of philosophy, it teaches you a lot about the person doing so. In the western tradition, early philosophy and what we now call math where more or less the same. Look at the original meaning of the Greek word Logic/Logos for illustration. The world as we know it can't exist without it.
coretx··on Mozilla's Original Sin
You are right, it's not a gun, it's Widevine they hold against your head. Of course everyone is free to use DRM if they want to, however, no one should be free to expose others to the risks/consequences of DRM.

It's basically Popper on tolerance all over again. Herefore it should not be a surprise to notice that Mozilla's strategic failures already are costing us freedom.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance for details.
