copemaxxxing··on Accept 'bad things' in return for benefits of AI, says Sam Altman
Bad things:

- Human mathematicians starve

- Human musicians starve

- Human artists starve

- <insert more>

FYI. I am a programmer. I can starve, I have no value anyway in a the eyes of a lot of people especially the leadership, nothing new even before AI. That's fine. But please don't let the valuable people above starve.

copemaxxxing··on Fuck it, make it anyway
There are offshore oil mining rig that needs workers. They pay big bucks too. You get some months off. The physical movement is better than cleaning the bathroom.

No need to thank me. You're welcome.

copemaxxxing··on Fuck it, make it anyway
A lot of people create AI art and AI music and attempt to make it as if they are the one making it, they are the one that has talent.

But still souless, still sucks. Its just excuse of laziness. Pick up a brush, pick up an instrument and stop jerking around all day.

Talentless people are talentless because lack of effort, not because of lack of talent.

In front of those people, I will always bask in my sheer superiority because I make real music and real art. People compliment my musical skills and people don't compliment those who create song with AI.

We as a society need to be able to identify which one is AI generated and which one is not, and let the free market takes care of itself. Those who want AI generated things can have it, those that don't want can avoid it.

Take a guess which one will have more demand.

copemaxxxing··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
Off topic:

> For example, with a style that could be described as the opposite of clickbait, Simon Willison has written what I suspect is the most widely read blog among programmers for the past 3-4 years (in the same way that, at various times in the past, Joel Spolsky or Jeff Atwood or Steve Yegge seemed to be the most widely read programmer among programmers). Among programmers and other serious users of AI, I would guess that Willison has a larger audience than Zitron.

I have no idea Simon Willison is the most widely read blog among programmers. I truly have no idea, and I've been programming for just a decade.

A lot of Simon's blogs posted here are when new LLM models are released, on how good are these LLM models create pelican riding a bike using SVGs. Nothing particularly interesting to me.

I truly have no idea why would people be interested in blogs about LLM creating pelican riding a bike svgs every single time a new model is released. Maybe its a proof of AGI/ASI for some?

I guess to me, Simon Willison will always be the "create-a-pelican-riding-a-bike-using-svg-dude".

I like to maintain my Agency, so no thanks.

I suppose people like me will be rarer and rarer as the years pass by.

Thankfully I am going to FIRE (by my own choice) soon.

For all the youngsters and people still in the rat race. Godspeed to you. Take control of your future. Shape it as much as you can, don't let others dictate it.

I do find it useful, but if I have a choice, I don't need to.

I find cars useful, but I don't have a car.

Guns are useful too in certain context, I don't have a gun thankfully because I don't need to.

Really? My mom doesn't eat raw sushi or shellfish and pork, she is not Jewish or Islam. She doesn't think those tastes that good.

Did I say this somewhere?
copemaxxxing··on Australia Bans Generative A.I. From Official Music Charts
Well, you'll be surprised. I am probably better than you. Taste is relative after all.

1. Its the people who worship Rihanna and Guy Sebastian is the problem. If you don't like those people, don't need to buy their stuffs. I am a musician but I, never in my life, have any idols whatsoever. I don't buy their stuffs. I create my own. One wonder how can the entertainment industry survives anyway if everyone is like me. But thankfully not everyone is like me, the world goes around.

2. You can support local artist, not the big name ones.

3. You can still create your own music without AI, by you know, picking up musical instruments, paying your local guitar teachers to teach you so he can send his kids to college. To not do so is just laziness. Full. Stop.

AI generated music, AI generated blogs etc, is really a stupid idea. Maybe some people want it, but I really don't. I really don't care if the music is great (it's not, I'm a musician). I really don't care if the writing is great or the content is great.

Its like being kosher. Some people choose to not eat non kosher food. I choose not to consume AI generated materials.

What if AI cures cancer? Sure, let it cure cancer. I still don't want to read it. Some other people will read it. It still hasn't cured cancer yet though.

I do use AI in my day job as SWE, not by my own choice, but forced by the industry. It does good works, but if I have a choice, yeah I really don't need to, or want to.

I am just a peasant tossed back and fro by the rich, so I know my place, and keep my head down to do whatever necessary to live, but not more. I can choose what I am being kosher about.

I think it would be great if the world has 2 economies. AI and non AI economies. The more we can identify which one is AI and which one is not, the better the outcome for people like me.

copemaxxxing··on Building an (almost) fully self-hosted, sandboxed, agentic software factory

copemaxxxing··on Building an (almost) fully self-hosted, sandboxed, agentic software factory
Read "no silver bullet" article.
copemaxxxing··on Building an (almost) fully self-hosted, sandboxed, agentic software factory
People who build software factory are in for a disappointing future. Spoken as someone who uses AI day to day for job and personal projects, I've came across a few super gnarly bugs already, ranging from frontend React apps (yes, believe it or not, frontend is far from solved) to embedded that Claude can't solve. Those bugs are feature breaker. My primary skillset is fullstack/frontend leaning, not embedded. Granted, I might be out of depth in embedded/RTOS but I am very qualified to do frontend. Yet I found bugs in those areas that Claude Opus high can't even solve for hours.

I pointed Claude at those for hours and hours, didn't fucking work, ended up creating more and more slop. Until I stepped in and fixed it in a few lines of code. Thankfully with all my AI assisted work, I took time to understand everything so I was able to debug and fix.

The problem for software factory is, that up to a certain point, you'll encounter some nasty bugs that are really important for your features, but you can't ship it because while the AI deals with the 90%, turns out that last remaining 10% are the one that make or break your project. And you need to deal with that remaining 10%. But how can you deal with the remaining 10% if you don't understand that 90% or majority of it?

Also, don't listen to influencers like Kent Dodds or Uncle Bob or Steve Yegge, who advocated for software factory walk away from the code kinda thing. They are already rich, and they sell teaching content, but most importantly, their time in this industry has passed. They are not in the weeds doing enterprise software development anymore.

Their first and primary concern is trying to be relevant to sell courses. They don't care about you. Yes I used to listen to them (though not often), but now not anymore. The world doesn't get better or worse whether they choose to sip margarita on a beach or spin yet another "so many words to say absolutely nothing" video/blogs.

copemaxxxing··on Mathematics in the age of AI
That's not gonna happen. What's gonna happen is you'll be in forever slavery. You think those in power will let you enjoy your life?
copemaxxxing··on On AI regulation and messaging
I think it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter whether the creator of AI is a god or a devil. It will be hated anyway.

Because the reasons outlined in the article, plus many others. Concentration of power, unemployment, rising energy/living costs, stealing of digital artifacts owned by people.

I myself acknowledge that AI is useful. But due to the reasons above, I will be anti AI for the most part.

Yes, it doesn't matter if AI manages to cure cancer. Due to the reasons above, I will be anti AI. I suspect a lot of other people feel the same way.
