cookingrobot··on A new bill takes aim at government pressure to silence lawful online speech
What are those things? Googling didn’t help.
cookingrobot··on Please Use AI
The work of a photographer is to put something interesting in front of the lens before pressing the button.
cookingrobot··on Nvidia and OpenAI abandon unfinished $100B deal in favour of $30B investment
Microsoft’s AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman predicts 'most, if not all' white-collar tasks will be automated by AI within 18 months.

cookingrobot··on How to draw construction equipment for kids
May be too technical for kids, but “Ignition! An Informal History of Liquid Rocket Propellants” is wonderful.

https://library.sciencemadness.org/library/books/ignition.pd...

cookingrobot··on Replit's CEO apologizes after its AI agent wiped a company's code base
But replit isn’t just a coding assistant - it’s value is that it handles all the associated parts of launching a web app. It manages api secrets, hosts the app, does user authentication, etc. And its target user is “semi-technical”, you don’t even see the code it writes by default.

Creating a db and not accidentally permanently deleting it is one of the capabilities it should have.

cookingrobot··on LLM Inevitabilism
That’s an implementation choice. All the math involved is deterministic if you want it to be.
cookingrobot··on OpenAI charges by the minute, so speed up your audio
There are fonts designed to be legibly at really small size. I wonder if there are voices that are especially understandable at extreme speeds.

Could use an “auctioneer” voice to playback text at 10x speed.

cookingrobot··on Extreme Super-Resolution via Scale Autoregression and Preference Alignment
Here’s their repo: https://github.com/bryanswkim/Chain-of-Zoom
cookingrobot··on Zillow to bar publicly marketed listings not shared via MLS
Can you explain more?
cookingrobot··on How to title your blog post or whatever
Or it could read the article and rewrite the title to make the point clear.

And give a score based on how interesting it will likely be to you.

cookingrobot··on What if we made advertising illegal?
How is that? There are lots of things that are illegal that are just “speech”.

Fraud, threats, impersonation, etc etc.

cookingrobot··on Complete hardware and software setup for running Deepseek-R1 locally
I think it’s like asking someone “how many times does your pen change direction when writing the word strawberry on paper”.

You need to think really hard to get to an answer, because that’s more fine grained than the way you usually think about words and letters.

cookingrobot··on Ask HN: SWEs how do you future-proof your career in light of LLMs?
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/klarna-ceo-says-th...
cookingrobot··on Microsoft said it lost weeks of security logs for its customers' cloud products
I worked on Windows 2000, thanks! But Windows 7 was better.
cookingrobot··on I Am Tired of AI
Idea: we should make sure we keep track of what the human created content is, so that we don’t get confused by AI edits of everything in the future.

For ex, calculate the hash of all important books, and publish that as the “historical authenticity” check. Put the hashes on some important blockchain so we know it’s unchanged over time.

cookingrobot··on Pulsed laser deposition at wafer level is a game changer
Does this help with compute, or just MEMS and radio?
cookingrobot··on The law should treat personal data like human organs – not for sale
How about copyright?

Every piece of data you create could be considered a copyrighted act, owned by you.

cookingrobot··on Show HN: Right-click and save content directly to Google Sheets
This looks great, but I’m always nervous about granting access to google drive.

Does this give permission to read everything on my Google Drive or just this one spreadsheet?

cookingrobot··on NASA's Voyager 1 Resumes Sending Engineering Updates to Earth
How many Starships would it take to go and bring Voyager 1 back to earth?

If each ship was used like an expendable stage, and we were willing to use 100 ships, how long would it take to catch up to Voyager, stop, and return to earth?

cookingrobot··on CA insurance crisis: Thousands to lose coverage as two more insurers withdraw
That’s called reinsurance, and insurance companies buy that to cover them when disasters are more than they can afford.
cookingrobot··on An autonomous robot arm that you can play against
These exist. https://miko.ai/products/miko-chess-grand
cookingrobot··on Elon Musk's $55B Tesla Pay Package Voided by Judge
Not if he threatens to quit Tesla to start a competing car company out of spite.
cookingrobot··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
How did the actions of the company not line up with being safe and ethical? It seems to have been tuned to be extremely safe and non-offensive, to a pretty extreme degree.

And totally unrelated, what’s wrong with worldcoin? Isn’t that the UBI project? That seems to line up with the idea that ai will create huge amounts of wealth, and he wanted to share it.

cookingrobot··on $2.70 supermarket wine wins gold medal at international wine contest
It’s true sometimes people can’t guess if what they’re tasting is red or white. And people may not agree on which wines they like better.

But it’s obviously true that different wines taste different. This is easy (and fun) to test at home.

cookingrobot··on Youtube2Webpage: Create Websites with Text from Videos
This is a blank page on iOS Chrome.
cookingrobot··on Huawei reportedly building 'secret' semiconductor fabs
But it was a contract for work yes? That sounds more like a pre-payment than a grant.
cookingrobot··on Jeff Bezos on AI (1998) [video]
I think the comment was that if they buy a vacuum and don’t like it, they return it and buy a different one. So if that happens 20% of the time, that next month has a much higher chance of buying “another vacuum” than the average month.

Also, I bought my parents a Roomba because I liked mine, so that can happen too.

cookingrobot··on Apple forced to make major cuts to Vision Pro headset production plans
Apple sells a $6999 monitor. The Vision seems like a very niche, very expensive portable monitor.
cookingrobot··on AI’s biggest risk is the corporations that control them
You’re sort of reinforcing the point. Only laws prevent companies from running printing presses to print money.
cookingrobot··on AI Is a Waste of Time
I’d say approximately nobody believed NFTs had any value or invested any money. AI seems quite different.
