cookiemonsieur··on Ask HN: Using AI daily but not seeing productivity gains – is it just me?
Exactly, for me it's just a glorified stack overflow.
cookiemonsieur··on What newspaper are you paying for these days?
> There was a shocking slip of quality in the last 2 years at all of these.

The timeline seems to be coinciding with a certain event that happened in 2023

cookiemonsieur··on Ask HN: What newspaper are you paying for these days?
> I find the quality and mostly left wing bias in the current state unacceptable

Except when it comes to current geopolitics that is, now we're talking delusionally right wing bias. wink wink

cookiemonsieur··on Self-hosting your own media considered harmful according to YouTube
> The UK may not be perfect but no one’s going to complain if you compare the Prime Minister or the King to a cartoon bear.

But if you compare Zionism to another eerily similar 20th century europe ism, a lot of people will, indeed, complain.

cookiemonsieur··on Ask HN: What is the best LLM for consumer grade hardware?
> We have people from every political spectrum here and they don't get banned, how can it be an echo chamber?

I mean sure, they may not get banned, but start voicing an opinion that it even moderately against the status quo and you get downvoted to oblivion.

cookiemonsieur··on DeepSeek’s founder is threatening US dominance in AI race
It's not US vs China. It increasingly looks like China VS a conglomerate of multi national companies with foreign born billionaire CEOs whose HQs happen to be located in the USA.
cookiemonsieur··on DeepSeek’s founder is threatening US dominance in AI race
> Why don't you ask (it about) the kids at timn square, was fashion the reason, why were they there?

Western models have been proven to be heavily censored, under the guise of fighting antisemitism for example.

cookiemonsieur··on How Kim Jong Il Kidnapped a Director, Made a Cult Hit Godzilla Knockoff (2015)
> I must be missing something about North Korea.

Other than, irrational, comical western propaganda, not much no.

cookiemonsieur··on Manuscript of Ismail al-Jazarī's Ingenious Mechanical Devices (ca. 17th century)
> He stood on the shoulders of Persian, Greek, Indian, and Chinese precursors, while Renaissance inventors, in turn, stood on his.

This is the first time in my life where a western outlet doesn't try and obfuscate the fact that many of the "discoveries" made by europeans in the the renaissance period have taken inspiration from the close to 800 years of Islamic scientific research (who themselves never failed to credit their predecessors).

Typically, when you study the history of science in the west, it starts at ancient greece (who have no contemporaries) then there's a massive blackout of 800 years and poof ! The "light" is magically turned on.

Fair play to the author for not being biased.

cookiemonsieur··on Congress passes Take It Down act despite major flaws
they should've called it "shut it down". To go along with the meme.
cookiemonsieur··on Ask HN: Why does OpenAI require an ID to use their image API?
If you put the feature behind a paywall, technically you can track requests using the payment card ?

In that case, what would be the added benefit of using an government issued ID ? really curious.

cookiemonsieur··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (April 2025)
I like the concept of "refactoring" one's life.
cookiemonsieur··on Ask HN: Did someone dig into the JFK files?
That's probably because anything of relevance or incriminating has been redacted.

Which defeats the entire purpose of releasing the files in the first place.

It was probably done to appease orange man's voters. Another empty gesture, like "renaming the gulf of mexico to gulf of america"

cookiemonsieur··on Wiz's $32B GTM Playbook
Exactly, you don't just exit for $32B. There's definitely more to the story, which feels "manufactured" for lack of better words.
cookiemonsieur··on Ask HN: Do you still use search engines?
> How do I know the LLM isn't lying to me?

How do you know the media isn't lying to you ? It's happened many times before (think pre-war propaganda)

cookiemonsieur··on Pico.sh – SSH powered services for developers
> Well, but that API Gateway x Lambda x DynamoDB combo will not answer support E-mails, will it?

How does that factor into the $40/month price point ?

cookiemonsieur··on Pico.sh – SSH powered services for developers
> I run a B2B SaaS. Support costs is what eats you alive: in case of a complex B2B app anything below $40/month is unsustainable

I agree to an extent. But it largely depends on the complexity of your offering. If all you do is expose flat data through an API, you can maybe get away with an API Gateway x Lambda x DynamoDB combo, which would cost virtually nothing as the free tier is very generous.

Just my 2c.

cookiemonsieur··on Simulated Economy Tutorial
can the economy even be predicted ? Was it ever done to any successful degree in the past ? And if so, to what end ?

I like the idea conceptually, but it doesn't seem to be good enough to halt economic disasters (or correction as we like to call them nowadays).

cookiemonsieur··on Show HN: LinkedIn sucks, so I built a better one
interesting take, what made it a perfect product in your opinion ? as opposed to linkedin / OP's product
cookiemonsieur··on European Cloud, Global Reach
> Enforcing Defamation laws is censhorship

This is up to the regime's definition of "defamation".

> You can use LLMs to search for events that happened

Depends on the "events" that have happened and the questions you ask. I'll leave it at that.

cookiemonsieur··on It is practically impossible to find a freelance project these days
> The broader narrative is one of increasing prosperity, GDP output and stock market profitability all over, yet the middle class struggles more and more to find every morsel to feed their hunger.

This can only mean one of two things: Either the narrative is wrong, or the narrative is a well concocted lie.

cookiemonsieur··on Curtis Yarvin Says Democracy Is Done. Powerful Conservatives Are Listening
> In my country, the average voter wants their trash hauled away, but don't want any dumps or incinerators built. They want responsive public services, but they don't want tax increases, cuts to other services, or a deficit. They want good care for the elderly,

Many "undemocratic" nations have functioning public services, clean streets, low to virtually no-crime and good universities.

> but they don't want to spend more on care workers, or to give the jobs to poorly paid immigrants.

In a capitalist economy part of a global marketplace, you are not "owed" jobs.

cookiemonsieur··on Show HN: I made a tool to port tweets to Bluesky mantaining their original date
A Lil Jon reference on a HN thread about Bluesky was most definitely not on my 2025 bingo card. But I'll take it.
cookiemonsieur··on EU to impose counter tariffs on $28 billion of US goods
The current state of the aforementioned countries would prove otherwise, I'm afraid.
cookiemonsieur··on EU to impose counter tariffs on $28 billion of US goods
> Thankfully there are alternative currencies that can be used for that nowadays.

Iraq and Libya have tried, and look what's happened to them ...

The main reason countries are using the USD as the reserve currency is because if they don't, the "Free World TM" will bomb them back to the stone age.

cookiemonsieur··on Ecosia is teaming up with Qwant to build a European search index
Bingo ! Anything considered too politically sensitive in the west (you know what I'm talking about) can easily be researched on Yandex.

Wanna find dirt about the west ? Use Yandex. Wanna find dirt about the kremlin ? Use Google/Bing/Whatever.

cookiemonsieur··on Ecosia is teaming up with Qwant to build a European search index
I certainly will, thanks for the plug.
cookiemonsieur··on I am building an app to fight propaganda online. Need your help
first you have to define what is propaganda.
cookiemonsieur··on US deploys AI to revoke visas of foreign nationals supporting Hamas: Report
MIGA more like
cookiemonsieur··on US deploys AI to revoke visas of foreign nationals supporting Hamas: Report
They certainly have no problem sending billions of tax payer money and sign missiles to m*rder children.

I think the point here is to prime the public for this discriminatory use of AI. Today it's "bad hamas", tomorrow it can be whatever the current government deems "bad". And by then, it'll be too late.
