companyhen··on Bitcoin tops $34,000 as record-breaking rally resumes
Earn interest on it or take out a loan with it through BlockFi.com and other lending services.
companyhen··on Ask HN: Is there a note taking app you're 100% happy with?
Just the main notes iOS/Mac app but my notes are mostly just lists.
companyhen··on SEC charges Ripple and two executives
As much as a permabear he is, you can notice he's starting to change his tone on BTC overall as of late.
companyhen··on Facebook being investigated in Germany for tying Oculus use to Facebook accounts
I have an Oculus 1 and can't add any friends unless I link a Facebook account, so I've just been enjoying playing Beat Saber and a few other games "off the grid".
companyhen··on Teddit: a free and open-source Reddit front end focused on privacy
Tildes is by an ex-reddit employee, I believe the one who created AutoModerator.
companyhen··on Ethereum 2.0 launches
Bitcoin is the gateway into crypto. Check the marketcap, and all the pairs are tied to BTC on most major exchanges. It's also the most secure and has the largest community. It's use case is different than Ethereum's.
companyhen··on Ethereum 2.0 launches
Not true, many think PoS is coming to BTC in the future, or at least a hybrid. (Note: not the near future)

companyhen··on Solomon Islands set to ban Facebook in the name of 'national unity'
The serverless/decentralized web could potentially keep it going once that's more scalable and user friendly.
companyhen··on Ask HN: How do you privately share pictures and video with family and friends?
https://app.ardrive.io - ArDrive
companyhen··on Ask HN: What are real-life useful use-cases for blockchain (not currencies)?
https://www.arweave.org/ is one of my favorites. A16Z, TechStars, and Coinbase all backing it. Really interesting tech.
companyhen··on Reddit now requires an account to read the comments
I can still sort comments on old reddit. Do you use Reddit Enhancement Suite?
companyhen··on The ballooning money supply may be the key to unlocking inflation in the U.S.
1-10% into crypto is fine as long as you invest in the bluechips (Bitcoin and Ethereum) depending on your risk tolerance. Don't go all in, and dollar cost average.
companyhen··on Vapor – Decentralized Web over Bitcoinized HTTP
Reminds me of https://arweave.org
companyhen··on Ask HN: How to deal with ADHD on your own? (If you have to)
Meditation works best for me. 15 minutes when I wake up every morning at a minimum. 25-30 minutes gets me really focused through the day. Started during lockdown, around day 130 right now. Best habit I picked up. Morning works best for me, if I wait until later in the day I don't feel like making time for it.

I use the insight timer app which has nice analytics and you can see everyone around the world and your city meditating with you, which is a nice social feature.

companyhen··on Kraken Wins Bank Charter Approval
Ethereum was introduced in 2014, so I'd say blockchain based smart contracts are only 6 years old max. Try looking past bitcoin and see what's happening in DeFi. https://defipulse.com - any of the top projects are worth looking into. Don't be so quick to judge. A lot of progress has been made the past year and DeFi is much more sustainable.

Imagine if Facebook did something like this with $FB stock to reward it's early users: https://www.theblockcrypto.com/linked/78255/140k-addresses-u...

companyhen··on Kraken Wins Bank Charter Approval
It's a brand new technology. That's like being disappointed by where the Internet was at in the late 80s or early 90s.
companyhen··on Kraken Wins Bank Charter Approval
The narrative has moved on to Decentralized Finance.

Over $9 billion is now locked in DeFi apps - https://defipulse.com - Instead of being like the ICO bubble, in DeFi you lock your money up (not exchange it for a worthless token built on vaporware).

companyhen··on Ask HN: Is the Blockchain Hype Ended?
https://defipulse.com is the new hype. The ICO hype has turned into DeFi hype. Plus NFT's and decentralized storage hype around the corner.

Reddit also added ETH-based coins to some subreddits this year and is doing an ETH scaling competition - https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/hbjx25/the_great_...

companyhen··on BitTorrent v2
You can transact billions of dollars across the globe securely with a minimal transaction fee via Bitcoin. Don't see how that's possible with Star Wars cards. Guess some people prefer government fiat currency with unlimited supply. I'd rather store my wealth in something that was launched more fairly for all and deflationary, even if it is high risk. The future for blockchain tech is bright, a lot has happened during the past bear market and the DeFi giant is looming. https://defipulse.com
companyhen··on BitTorrent v2
Communities can create value. The Bitcoin community believes Bitcoin has value, so it does. It has unique tokenomics with a limited 21m supply and is backed by math and cryptography. That's all there is to understand. Look into the history of money. Crypto just allows communities to have value. Soon you will see many communities online creating governance tokens, something like "reddit coins" but better, and you will be able to sell them for another coin like DAI or USDC.

You can already purchase Reddit MOONS from the r/cryptocurrency subreddit here: http://xmoon.exchange/

companyhen··on Blockchain, the Solution for Almost Nothing
I've been using it to host static websites for free personally. You can get free AR to try it yourself, more than enough to last you a very long time. I deploy from localhost and it's on the permaweb almost instantly.

http://tokens.arweave.org/

Arweave is based on a new consensus mechanism called ‘proof of access’ (PoA). Arweave is more suitable for slow write (upload) and fast read (download). Download is more useful for most use cases, like hosting websites, unlike other decentralized storage projects which are more suitable for write (Upload)

Arweave has developed a system for data storage which makes it economically sustainable and feasible to store data for centuries. The system allows you to have highly available low latency data storage while maintaining an incentive model where miners will store user's data forever.

Some apps you can check out built on the permaweb:

https://arweave.org - pay once, store forever. decentralized storage network. backed by a16z, coinbase, and more.

https://www.hyperledger.org/learn/publications/soramitsu-cas... - central bank digital currency in Cambodia built on Hyperledger Iroha

https://defipulse.com - $6b+ locked in DeFi applications

I don't see how tech inclined people don't see value in what's being created right now unless your eyes are closed. A new web is being created.

companyhen··on Investor revolt and legal dispute delay Filecoin plans
Arweave has a pay once, store forever model where after the initial payment to upload (~$0.005/MB) the file is stored forever on the permaweb. You can get started with some free tokens to play with arweave here:

http://tokens.arweave.org/

I also suggest you check out the latest Arweave x Gitcoin Open Web Incubator Demo Day from last week to see the latest stuff being built. Looking forward to ArDrive, Verto, WeaveID and more.

One further advantage of decentralized UI hosting on Arweave is simply resilience to website outages: https://twitter.com/rleshner/status/1278444807011139585

companyhen··on Ask HN: I have $450K cash, what should I do to maximize my return?
5-10% of your total into BTC and ETH, 1-3% into smaller but high potential projects like LINK, MKR, KNC, etc.
companyhen··on Ask HN: I hate coding, but it's all that's on my resume. What do I do?
I've been living in SEA for a few years now, my expenses usually range between $1-2k/mo in BKK, what were you doing and where were you that you're spending more than $2k/mo in SEA? I've lived everywhere from $150/mo studio apartments to $1k/mo condo's in BKK and it was hard for me to break $2k/mo if I tried. Usually closer to $1.5k/mo for me.
companyhen··on Ask HN: I hate coding, but it's all that's on my resume. What do I do?
Get your TEFL certificate. Teach english online to Chinese kids or move to foreign country and teach english.
