column··on Suno rolls out v6 song making model, will pay royalties
My initial testing on a very small dataset, please note I am not a music professional but I have generated my fair share of musics with Suno for a couple of years :

v6 has the same downside of "mainstream beat" as v5. v4.5+ was still the best for a "real organic" song vibe. Too bad it's gone.

v6-wild is ultra-sensible to the weirdness factor. Where v5 at 70% weirdness would produce something interesting, v6-wild made garbage.

v6 generations are more bass heavy. Listening with a headset, I feel if I were to play this on a proper speaker the walls would shake.

I do not want to call anyone names but the level of pedantry and gatekeeping in this comment and the replies is outstanding. I can hear Chuck McGill screaming "You're not a real driver!".

Very impressive and enjoyable good experience. This was done with Opus 4.8! In theory Qwen 3.8-27B could do it too.

...I would have asked Fable.

column··on Show HN: iPhone app takes simultaneous images from 2 lenses, fuses into 1 photo
I guess I will break the general hypocrisy and be the one to say this can be replicated with AI. Fable almost one-shotted it.

The devil is in the details. I ended up tinkering quite a bit because Samsung's software decides for you wether to use the real 3x camera or do a digital zoom (which defeats the purpose). Long story short I got a prototype working, but only when shooting outdoor with good day light. No I will not share it or publish it. The result was terrible for a close up portrait. It works beautifully for outdoor shots of plants/trees.

Here is the catch : when you share your detailed shot by WhatsApp (for example), it gets compressed and you lose those precious details.

A very cool project nonetheless.

column··on Giving LLMs a personality is just good engineering
ok but then why is ChatGPT's personality so infuriating? "It's not just X, it's Y." "Here it is, no extra text, no fluff."
column··on Elevated Errors in Claude.ai
"How?" <- It shows a lack of curiosity?

"probably know enough" <- that's exactly the point of the question, is the candidate clueless about AI/LLM.

column··on Elevated Errors in Claude.ai
You are not alone. The silver lining is they show their true colors early.
column··on I’m joining OpenAI
It does not matter that he vibe-coded it. It does not matter if any stars/twitter post were bought. He generated hype and that's what big AI company need at the moment. They hire him, they give a cut on that hype. If he's no good (at generating any hype) in the coming months, he'll be gone. It's hype all the way down.

but you can walk over to them and tell them to go wash the car that is 50 meters away. no driving involved.
column··on I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?
50 meters is a very short distance, anything but a slow drive is a reckless drive

Meanwhile you could benchmark for something actually useful. If you're about to say "But that means it won't work for my use case of identifying a person on a live feed" or whatever, then why don't you test that? I really don't understand the kick people get of successfully tricking LLMs on non productive task with no real world application. Just like the "how many r in strawberry?", "uh uh uh it says two urh urh".. ok but so what? What good is a benchmark that is so far from a real use case?

column··on We accidentally solved robotics by watching 1M hours of YouTube
> right now, you need to show the robot pictures of what you want it to do. want it to "clean the kitchen"? better have a photo of a clean kitchen handy.

What about using Flux Kontext (or Controlnets) to turn the messy kitchen into a clean kitchen?

Feedback : when creating a workspace, a board, or a list, pressing "Enter" is not the same as clicking the "Create" button which is the only button visible. Pressing "Enter" does not create the list.

For a new user like me, the difference between a workspace, a board, and a list is not obvious. A one image explanation would be welcomed.

o1's take on your bonus question seems reasonable :

Yes. Art can have intrinsic and personal value for its creator, independent of any external audience. Unseen art lacks immediate external value [to others] but retains latent worth, potentially realized when discovered or appreciated in the future.
