Exactly, that's what I'm saying, the cost should be exactly equal to what it costs to fix it. The most efficient way to do that is allow anybody to get certified to fix that externality and require proof that the person who caused it also paid to get it fixed. This makes it easier than trying to determine what the current price of remediating is. Markets work really well at some things and this is one.
There's an easy thing we can do to start fixing: ban ag exports. We been subsidizing it for too long and literally shipping our water overseas. We reduce our own ag production to feed just us, even those uses of water are probably doable.
Uhh fuck that (pun not intended). We are not the problem, America has plenty of space, there is no need. SE Asia is stabilizing. Africa has a lot of birth but also a lot of space left.
There will probably be some places with "natural" population control from lack of food or from disease bht that doesn't mean "we" have to do anything.
You def can't be pro-choice or anti-fascist then support population control.
yep gas is like 100 times more energy dense as lithium ion iirc so there's cases where it's just a better "battery". there's also a big carbon cost to replacing all the huge number of gas engines we have. so like what HIF Global wants to do using electricity to make gas can be a good solution.
no its purpose is to fix an externality. it should be exactly equal to the cost of carbon offset for the amount emitted. or better yet license anybody to do carbon capture and require presenting a certificate of equal carbon removed. start at like 1/8 emissions removal and go up over time.
if you care about stopping carbon emissions i think this is the most realistic and efficient way. otherwise we get caught up in discussions of how this changes redistribution and "economic/environmental justice" or whatever and it will never happen. but unfortunately there are many people who care more about adding more free stuff or using the funds for more dumb congress policies then actually passing a carbon policy.
meh it's the shit that got them in there that was wrong. it may give us the justification to hold them prisoner but they still aren't morally required to not escape. like it's up to the judge what sentence they get so how could that even be a moral obligation?
Arstechnica did a war stories with him on Return of the Obra Dinn, combining one of my fave video series with one of my fave gamedevs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMi6xgdSbMA
I would not it put it past governments to shut down some types of payments if there was another lockdown. "Oh sorry it doesn't look like that's an essential business wait just 14 days!"
Uhh no that is not true in lots of places. Probably highly region and demographic dependent tho. Also apple pay alone is not a solution, no way am i paying for some overpriced iphone bc "oh were cashless now and only take apple pay".
google literally starts captcha blocking me if i do too many quote or intext searches. there is obviously a business case for fucking over power users. "you will look at the results The Algorithm surfaces and you will like it".
i'm wondering if it's a complete protein or not. a lot of plant proteins are low or lack methionene tryptophan and lysine, also are kinda lower in isoleucine and valine. a complete plant based protein that's not soy would be nice.
i've got my issues with brave but iirc they're actually doing an independent web index not just using bing (i think they still use them for images tho). it was really nice to hear somebody else is working on that even if i'm not using it rn.
+1 for python support. getting vba versions right for stuff that expects to interface through it can be a bitch if some vendor doesn't update stuff. you pay some stupid amount for a financial data product then it's like "lol this doesn't work with your version of office install 2016". not really excel dev's but python would be nice.
fr lol everybody who's worked in IB knows this. you go look in a VDR and it's like 99% excel files and PDFs. although for smaller businesses it's usually a quickbooks export or whatever, but whenever people need to actually get shit done or do something SAP or Oracle or whatever doesn't do right or takes too long.
as somebody who is very experienced with both writing crud apps and excel there's still a lot of cases where excel wins. a big one for me is making m&a models, stuff like that, excel is better bc you can organize view and move around data, re run calculations, whatever else in a tighter loop. and it's better at taking data in kinda inconsistent formats. there's a reason it is still king of IB, PE, all the finance world.
this is because excel was "low/no code" before it was a tech meme with vc money.
No because man/woman is still useful identifying information for most people. Make an "other" option for people who have medical documentation to support a physical abnormality. Because losing that identifying information for the 99.9% of the population is harder.
Right but isn't that a legal problem not a biology problem? "Lol sex is gone now" doesn't sound like the right solution. Just make an other option for people who are born like that, kinda like how we use month 0 for people who don't know their birthday.
We're not saying "force people" but 1.5 million against 7.5 billion is really small. Like, almost every trait that defines "human" has some people who don't fit that but still are human. This is because it's more about matching most not all traits. Like we still have to define human somehow.
I don't know why this means sex needs "redefining" when the article itself says it's like 1 in 4500 who are "other"? A really occasional abnormality doesn't mean the classification is wrong. Like, there's some kids born with 1 arm. They're still "human" but we still define the human normal as 2 arms 2 legs.
The 2nd half of this article makes it sound like they're writing this more to push a social agenda than in the pursuit of scientific advancement.
Still an interesting area of study. I wonder if e.g. women with male cells forming neurons are more "male brained" or vice versa.
fr it's not visas fault. this is just as stupid as letting sandy hook families sue gun manufacturers. it's just looking for a scapegoat. "somebody must pay!" so they keep looking until they find one. somebody gotta write the 50 million settlement check.
most times i see people get into fights there's their friends around so nobody pulls a weapon and to break it up if somebody goes down so people don't start kicking the other guy or whatever. it's a controlled way to resolve differences and tbh i don't get why people don't like it. like if it's 1 person jumping another that's different but i've got friends i fought with first and friends i fought with so we stayed friends after.
counterpoint: no. i been in some pretty stressful environments and never reacted like that. same for most guys i know. maybe it's different where you are but i never seen it even in private like that or with close friends.
