Never once used a case in 12+ yrs of iphone ownership and only cracked a screen once. Think there are a lot of people out there like me. Many people are way too anal about an every day utilitarian device.
I am very curious what the end goal of draining hotel pools as a contingency plan is. In the UK system would that water end up treated and recirculated? My maybe incorrect assumption was a good portion of that water is already a sunk cost.
Less flippantly that was sort of my thought. I’m probably a paranoid idiot and I’m not really sure I can articulate this idea properly but I can imagine a less concise but broader prompt and an agent configured in a way it has privileges you dont want it to have or a path to escalate them and its not quite AGI but its a virus on steroids - like a company or resource (think utilities) killer. I hope Im just missing something but these models seem pretty capable of wreaking all kinds of havoc if they just keep looping and have access nobody in their right mind wants.
I had a bad experience with chatgpt think maybe 3 and stopped trying. My thought was the training examples were sparse given how hard a time I had finding what I needed via search. You’ve encouraged me to revisit (and yes I know models have made big gains since then).
I would love to see data that backs this up. While definitely plausible the pathway she followed to naturalization was based on time in country and not our marriage. I didn’t need to push but I’ve generally found my congressman (who is also almost our neighbor) to be pretty unresponsive on any other issue.
My understanding - which may not be correct - is the length of the process primarily depends on your country of origin and secondarily on how you are eligible. Very interested in any source showing that a relatively normal process has pushed out from months to years.
My wife, a green card holder, applied for citizenship in April and was naturalized yesterday (from an EU country). Not that I don’t believe it could be true but where are you getting the 3-4yr timeline? If that’s accurate she/we may have dodged a massive bullet.
I have the first Ultra and just looked back at the data and they were never interrupted. It isn't included in the release either. Wonder what is different about it. Did apple arrive at a separate agreement for that device?
Saw a Jet Blue plane wrapped in Peacock livery today… selling the planes themselves as billboards sure does feel like scraping the bottom of the revenue barrel.
Plenty of blue collar jobs where you could get fired or couldn't get hired because of behavior outside work like an OUI. Anything requiring a CDL, security, some retail to name a few.
I mostly agree with you. But the same is true with your employer in the US. You do something stupid outside of work like an OUI and there will likely be consequences with employment - either current or future. Not terrible to internalize that early when the consequences are relatively forgettable.
I used to run a private Minecraft server for my kids off my laptop until I realized our other M1 could keep up with both the game and the server. Keeping it awake while closed would have been nice.
I think the format plays a huge factor too but for different reasons. This format of racing is very dependent on aerodynamic advantages - to the point that even on the massive climbs the rider on the wheel still holds the edge to someone doing the work. On the flat stages the peloton is almost always going to catch a breakaway. Any marginal advantage is super useful in that context and the well funded teams push to optimize everything. I think it’s more likely than not there is cheating. Motors seem unlikely but with this kind of money and international attention marginal advantages like microdosing for example will be exploited. People cheat in everything and often get rewarded for it. It’s an infuriating fact of life.
I’m not sure I’ll ever understand HN aggression with certain downvotes. This is the OP from Italy and likely English is not their first language. Why is this comment so bad?
I don’t have hearing loss but the best way I’ve found to not miss important notifications is a smart watch. Game changing to ensure my wife and I don’t miss each other’s messages around school pickup or anything else important. With an apple watch you can make the vibration pretty unmissable. We both have almost all other notifications silenced so it’s not overly noisy either. I never use sound for any kind of notification anymore - even when expecting important calls.
The first startup I worked at used IRC - well before slack etc. I hadn’t touched it since I was a teenager and think I managed to violate just about every internal channel guideline. Took me a minute to understand what “echan” meant.
Think the some of the worst of it was for people stuck in elevators. Don’t have exact numbers but there were A LOT of them. Emergency services were very busy freeing people. My wife was stuck on a train and that wasn’t so great either. Toilets overflowed, ran out of water, eventually evacuated and walked to the previous station. They were lucky to be only a couple km away.
My father bought one of these before I was old enough to remember. He returned at least two defective units - the tape drives - before he threw in the towel. Eventually our first computer was the Apple IIc which we still have.
El Eternauta on netflix is an Argentine sci-fi series based on an old comic recently released. It is very well done. Best series I’ve watched in a while. Avoiding any real spoilers it pretty much kicks off with an EMP frying all modern electronics and the grid.
I know nothing about zig so just looked it up on wikipedia. Apropos of nothing it’s the first wikipedia article I’ve read that I’m convinced was written by/using an LLM.
Wonder what it is about these sources that compels people to pick them up put them in their pocket and surprisingly often keep them in their kitchen. Do they visibly glow or look cool?
On October 10th 2024 there was an x1.8 event and it was basically right at us. First time I’d seen the aurora - happened to be on cape cod at the time where the light pollution isn’t so bad. Was pretty amazing with the naked eye but absolutely incredible in long exposure photos.
I live in a neighborhood in Boston with a couple of big churches. The hourly bells are useful to teach the kids how to tell time. Especially when out and about. Thankfully none of the bells wake us up but I do appreciate them.
