coffeeblack··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
They did not.
coffeeblack··on Splashdown NASA’s Orion Returns to Earth After Historic Moon Mission
Historic is mostly the price tag. Everything else has been done before.

Looking forward to a reusable launch system flying around the moon for cheaper than currently launching to LEO. That will be historic.

coffeeblack··on The five-year engineering feat Germany pulled off in months
It changed quite a bit.
coffeeblack··on Apple introduces end-to-end encryption for backups
iCloud backups aren’t e2e encrypted?!
coffeeblack··on Why Is No One Asking SFB What Happened to the $3.3B He Borrowed?
Correct.
coffeeblack··on Why Is No One Asking SFB What Happened to the $3.3B He Borrowed?
The All-In podcast about this is worth listening to.

Considering that part of the money went to you-know-who, it’s no surprise that those groups don’t ask any tough questions.

coffeeblack··on Tesla Semi, a Deep Dive
That’s the exact same things you could hear 10 years ago regarding electric cats. And now every single car company is panicking to adopt electric, and many countries are going to make burners illegal.

So give out some years. Production capacity isn’t that high anyway, mostly because of battery production capacities.

coffeeblack··on Starlink speeds in US dropped from 105Mbps to 53Mbps in the past year
Did Iridium have reusable rockets too?
coffeeblack··on Twitter engineer: I thought I’d been hacked. It turned out I’d been fired
Yep. And the entire media apparatus changed its behavior at the same moment into the same direction. Weird.
coffeeblack··on Twitter engineer: I thought I’d been hacked. It turned out I’d been fired
*launched and landed
coffeeblack··on Twitter engineer: I thought I’d been hacked. It turned out I’d been fired
Based on the staff they actually need.
coffeeblack··on Twitter engineer: I thought I’d been hacked. It turned out I’d been fired
It’s a news headline. So it’s less about accuracy and more about drama.
coffeeblack··on Spotify CEO renews attack on Apple after Musk's salvo
Trying to get a discount, not news.
coffeeblack··on Shenzhou-15 manned mission ready for launch after final rehearsal
Just a reminder that no “livestream” in China is actually live. Ever.
coffeeblack··on Musk’s Boring Company Ghosts Cities Across America
Hit piece. The corporate media is trying to force Musk in line with the Uniparty.
coffeeblack··on The Origins of Python
Guido was today on Lex Fridman’s podcast:

coffeeblack··on maps.google.com now redirects to google.com/maps
Chrome users are probably okay with tracking anyway, but Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, etc could implement more fine grained controls. Not only for geolocation.
coffeeblack··on maps.google.com now redirects to google.com/maps
This is actually something that browsers can mitigate. Allow users to give tracking permissions not only for subdomains, but also for paths.

    Deny: google.com/*
    Allow: google.com/flights
Something like that.
coffeeblack··on Analysis on Docker Hub malicious images: Attacks through public container images
Don’t know why you are downvoted.

It’s a noble mission, but eventually a pointless one, I believe. It looks more and more like the entire strategy of having a bazillion mini repos all importing each other is doomed to fail.

But hey, maybe I’m wrong and all those automated auditing tools actually manage to keep dependencies sufficiently safe.

That would be the best outcome, but I am increasingly pessimistic. There is just too much to gain.

coffeeblack··on Analysis on Docker Hub malicious images: Attacks through public container images
Does every “registry” or “hub” have to repeat the same mistakes? It’s not like the same didn’t happened on pypi, npm, crates, and who knows how many others.
coffeeblack··on WikiLeaks is struggling to stay online as millions of documents disappear
The state powers as well as certain radicalized groups. Terrifying how easy it turned out to wash people’s brains.
coffeeblack··on High-documentation, low-meeting work culture
Very much my experience too.

People need to actually learn how to write and maintain(!) documentation, otherwise it’s just a huge chaos.

Rule 1: less (text) is more.

coffeeblack··on Twitter System Design by Elon
He didn’t. The speech is available on YouTube, his calls for peaceful and lawful demonstration are now back on Twitter. Don’t believe lies of the media, look at the original sources. Eye opening.
coffeeblack··on Twitter System Design by Elon
Most calls to violence I see on Twitter and irl come from the left, so for most racism these days. The switch happened about 7 or 8 years ago and was surprisingly sudden. Took me some years to realize it (I was a “lefty” all my life).
coffeeblack··on ‘Why am I talking to 10 guys?’ The rise and fall of dating apps
Exactly. Sounds more like the problems of a certain bubble.
coffeeblack··on Twitter System Design by Elon
Good idea, so I can quickly block the ideological spammers who hate diversity of thought.

I prefer the new open and divers Twitter, thank you.

coffeeblack··on Donald Trump is unbanned from Twitter
I don’t know, ask him.
coffeeblack··on Donald Trump is unbanned from Twitter
And for Twitter. Free speech deniers leave and Twitter becomes more open and divers. I like it.
coffeeblack··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
What is up with the rage downvotes? It’s pretty easy to look at the replies to popular Twitter users. There are waaay fewer crypto scam bots everywhere. Why deny reality?
coffeeblack··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
And yet, somehow new Twitter has FAR fewer bots and spam tweets that three weeks ago. Hmm…

Edit: downvoting doesn’t change reality
