---

Been working as a dev for over 15 years now, mostly in startups so alway learning, very fast mover.

The last few years has mostly revolved around building large internal cloud consumption platforms for enterprises through a boutique consultancy; involved from initial pitches through to implementation.

Previously successfully raised VC funds and while ultimately unsuccessful in the long run, learned a lot.

codingninja··on Self-Host All the Things?
I self host a huge amount of stuff on-top of a custom cloud platform I built using a Kubernetes cluster deployed as a tenant of my cloud.

I run a few servers which all have an "ordlet" installed, akin to the kubelet, which configure network namespaces for isolated tenant networking and boots virtual machines which use a EC2 style metadata server to fetch their boot script, which for this purpose configures a HA kubernetes cluster that then uses ArgoCD to fetch all the manifests from my git repo using an AppSet.

It's so incredibly over complicated and over engineered, it's a lot of fun :)

codingninja··on Self-Host All the Things?
You might like my homelab hypervisor project, https://github.com/ordiri/ordiri

It's built on-top of the Kubernetes API server runtime and deploys virtual machines and tenant networks, you can see the Kubernetes cluster I deploy using IaC YAML manifests here - https://github.com/ordiri/ordiri/tree/master/ordiri/examples...

It powers all my publicly hosted, ipv6 only services - https://blog.dmann.xyz for example, it's 1000% over kill but a fun project none the less :)

codingninja··on ESP32 Buyer’s Guide: Different Chips, Firmware, Sensors
I've bought 6 of these direct from Espressif on Aliexpress, highly recommend!
codingninja··on Ask HN: What not-profit-seeking project are you tinkering with this week?
https://github.com/ordiri/ordiri

I've been working on an incredibly over engineered platform to run my home lab and to help learn about some lower levels of the stack I don't get to play with much in my day job as a consultant.

It's based on the kubernetes api server so while it doesn't understand "pods" or even proper "namespaces", it uses the same YAML resource model and api server code.

codingninja··on TechCrunch stores user passwords in plain text
I'm a big subscriber to broken windows theory; leaking raw errors and plain text passwords makes me think it's likely common practice...

I've reached out to them so hopefully they can get this sorted!

codingninja··on Things Hackers don’t tell you about Hackathons
Hey mate, I'd love to know what languages you deal with?
codingninja··on Helping a Million Developers Exit Vim
Try Sublime Text, it has a VI mode that helps the move.
codingninja··on AWS having major issues
Fortunately the Opsworks service wasn't able to contact EC2 API so although it attempted to terminate the servers, the termination call failed so the instances are still alive and functioning but there is now a disconnect between Opsworks and EC2
codingninja··on AWS having major issues
We are getting errors across multiple AWS API's. It's nothing to do with Opsworks itself, rather it appears like there is an internal networking issue.

Both SQS and SNS were erroring and now SQS has gone down completly with all requests timing out.

codingninja··on AWS having major issues
All of our opsworks instances are currently being shut down, we have already had 20 servers automatically terminated...

There goes the weekend!!

codingninja··on AWS having major issues
CAn confirm we are also experiencing massive issues, took AWS about an hour to update status page. Attempted to file support ticket and that timed out, when the request finished it had created 10 duplicated tickets and still waiting on the phone call from AWS RE ticket.

codingninja··on Show HN: Mine output simulator
I wrote this little simulator to help a friend in college who was stuck with his thesis. It simulates the output of a mine based on the distances required for trucks to travel and each location and trucks capacity.
codingninja··on H2 {position: sticky} [video]
To mitigate this, simply bind to the "touchmove" and "touchstart" events as well.
codingninja··on Show HN: Learner Approved Motorbikes
Awesome, wish it was around a month or two ago when I was getting my bike! Never knew there were so many different bikes I could ride on my L plates...
codingninja··on Linking to any web page on this Web site is prohibited
I doubt they strictly enforce this. It's most likely there so they have the power to have links removed if they think it is hurting their rep.
codingninja··on Help me launch my Australian based startup?
Hey mate,

There is already a app level loyalty system which tracks coffees ordered and will automatically give the user a free item when they have purchased 10 items :).

I definitely want to take this national shortly.

The way it works is by recharging your account with credit so that the fees are only incurred once on a 10-20$ transaction.

Thanks for the support! Hopefully I can get it off the ground :P
