codewithcheese··on Bitcoin is fiat money, too
I agree in regards to not fiat. How about the apparent utility it has as a store of wealth? If I was ultra rich I would store maybe 1% of my wealth in Bitcoin as a way to diversify my portfolio. Similar to gold, except for more wildly unpredicatable future financial scenarios.

What short sighted click bait. Steem has already solved or partially solved most of these problems and we haven't even scratched the service. Read the Steem white paper [1] if you want your mind blown.

codewithcheese··on JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says Bitcoin is a fraud that will eventually blow up
The most important uses in mind are that you can use Bitcoin to hedge against your own currency and as a way to diversify your portfolio in the same way you might hold stocks, bonds, cash and gold.
codewithcheese··on Lessons I Wish I Had Learned Before Teaching Differential Equations (1997) [pdf]
Hi I am interesting your advice on which math to learn if you have a spare moment to provide it. I too am starting to teach my self the requirements of data science and am also self conscious of the math I don't know. I am very excited about what is now possible with machine learning and deep learning as I believe it will become increasingly necessary for developers to stay relevant.

Could you comment in more detail on which mathematical skill you have found useful as data scientist? Which resources did you use to teach yourself? Very appreciative of any help.

codewithcheese··on Topic Suggestions for Millions of Repositories
I have also been researching this heavily recently. I am more concerned with Keyphrase Extraction rather than Topics. Topics I view as being more generalised across documents where as Keyphrase Extraction is concerned with the phrases or words that best represent each document which better suits my use case.

Moz have a good write up of their Keyphrase Extract pipeline here. https://moz.com/devblog/machine-learning-approach-to-keyword...

I would be happy to discuss this with you more if you would like.

codewithcheese··on O’Reilly Media has stopped retailing books directly on its ecommerce store
Your essentially paying for the product at the time of your payment and a 12 month subscription to updates. From that point of view it makes some sense that once your subscription is finished you revert back to the original product you bought you when subscribed. It does seem unnecessarily punitive though.
