codewithcheese··on Tether: The Story So Far
My bank has gotten much better in the last 10 years trying to keep up appearances. That's due to competition.

Remember people questioning if the internet was ever going to amount to anything in the dotcom bust?

codewithcheese··on Adam Neumann planned for his children and grandchildren to control WeWork
Interesting how pets.com is so ridiculed but something like a books.com (amazon) became the one of most valuable companies in the world.
codewithcheese··on AWS Fargate Deep Dive
I would love a managed Kubernetes Deployment/Job/StatefulSet. Forget managing the cluster or the node, just allow me to "apply" a Deployment config with associated Service straight to the cloud. I will tell you my resource limits bill me accordingly.

I hope Google Cloud or AWS is working on that. That would have a much wider impact then Fargate.

2FA is one of those basic things that should be standard for all credit card charges. I want to have the change to approve or deny every charge. Is that so much to ask?

codewithcheese··on Ask HN: How do you decide when you've done enough work for the day?
Ok I can see why you don't get burnt out much. I don't exercise and go to sleep at 4am lol
codewithcheese··on Ask HN: How do you decide when you've done enough work for the day?
I find there is inevitably still tough days working for yourself on a project that takes more than a month. Overworking can lead to losing sight of your goals which can lead to burn out.
codewithcheese··on AI Can Transform Anyone Into a Professional Dancer
Interesting thought. One upside might be people learn accomplishments are to be enjoyed as a personal achievement rather than requiring social acknowledgement to be validated.
codewithcheese··on The Ambien Diaries
Doctors should not prescribe alcohol. From a health and safety point of view, yes one should not consumer alcohol.
codewithcheese··on The Ambien Diaries
I think doctors as a group of individuals have proven they can't be trusted to weigh the risks. Consider the opiods epidemic as an example

There must be better alternatives to get a good nights sleep.

OP description of " I renewed prescriptions and would actually think ahead to the moment when I got to enjoy an Ambien." sound a lot like early stage addiction.

codewithcheese··on Inside Firefox’s DNS-over-HTTPS engine
I was already using 1.1.1.1, did not unblock. Would be very curious if the ISPs were actually proxying my DNS requests. Any tips on how I might test that on Ubuntu?
codewithcheese··on Inside Firefox’s DNS-over-HTTPS engine
Thanks for the heads up, ill keep that in mind if i start seeing issues. So far so good.

Yes but whats the process? Were traces of the app found by her employer? Are employers searching employees phones?

codewithcheese··on Dude, You Broke the Future [video]
That implies that "vulnerability/fallibility, social reputation/integration, slowness/interpretability, empathy" are not useful for decision making. Until we see intelligence comparable to human I don't think we can make that assumption.
codewithcheese··on Firefox is on a slippery slope
update your conciousness because a complete revamp is what happened. what mozilla did was stupid but its nothing compared to being tracked by google.

codewithcheese··on Flattr 2.0 launches to the public
They charge advertisers to unblock ads. So actually you will see ads as long as Adblock Plus is making money. They are generally seen as untrustworthy compared to something totally free like uBlock Origin.
