codesuela··on Engineering management is dying

codesuela··on Facebook Buys a Stake in $450M Asian Undersea Cable Consortium
anyone else worried about net neutrality?
codesuela··on Ask NH: 5 quick questions and we donate $2 to the charity of your choice

codesuela··on So, That’s It For Thunderbird
Ihmo there isn't so much left to innovate in an email client and Thunderbird is already a solid client so personally this message won't deter me from using it
codesuela··on Ask HN: I could really use some help and/or advice
I think as long as he doesn't ask you for 50 grand to be paid by Western Union to an African country it's safe to assume that he is not a scammer.
codesuela··on Diablo 3 Job Interview for Programmers
the sword costs less than 100k in game gold which would be 40 cents
codesuela··on Diablo 3 Job Interview for Programmers
1.000.000 Gold is 2-3 USD/EUR, the sword is worth nothing. Pretty cheap for a programmer lead. Also being a developer, I have not once met another hacker. Not that devs don't play games but so do tons of other people as well. I think it's a false assumption that you are going to find more programmers ingame.
codesuela··on Anonymous Publishing is Dead

Put on gloves

Stuff cash into an envelope

Send it to the guys at prq.se

codesuela··on How patent protection for antibiotics creates incentives to render them useless
I always wondered, isn't there a limited supply of how many Antibiotics "we" can create/synthesize? I only have a very limited understanding of Biology I'd love if someone could explain to me whether the "post-antibiotic era" is a real thread and at some point bacteria will get resistant to all the antibiotics we have at our disposal.

can someone tell me why HTML view apps are that slow on iPhone? I thought with all the money and time that has gone into the development of Webkit and Nitro (the JS engine?) we would be up to the speed of native now. Is this a rendering issue or just lack of bandwidth?
codesuela··on Berlin's new 107,000 ft² startup factory
Wooga, Soundcloud, Spreadshirt and maybe Amen come to mind (all Berlin based). Not to name the hugely successful Samwer clones like Zalando (biggest online shoe e-commerce business in Europe, Zappos clone).
codesuela··on Professional Starcraft Team releases documentary with pay-what-you-want model

codesuela··on Professional Starcraft Team releases documentary with pay-what-you-want model
would you say the same to football, hockey or soccer players?
codesuela··on The mintBox, a Linux Mint computer
exactly, if you have a problem then you can just Google for the Ubuntu solution which will always work unless it is a DM specific problem.
codesuela··on Flame: Massive cyber-attack discovered, researchers say
North Korea
codesuela··on Bitcoinica lost customer database, has no up to date record of trading balances
The difference here is that no one carries around the amount necessary to tip the balance of the economy, which is very much the case with Bitcoin sites such as Bitconica
codesuela··on Ask HN: Countries with sane governments that won't mess with my Internet use?
Germany has been successful in shaking of attempts to censor the net. Also the pirate party is gaining support every day and is at 11% on the federal level and entered a couple state parliaments.
codesuela··on Somebody please, for the love of god, fix shipping/couriers
my apartment is on the fourth floor and the regular couriers know that, that's why only receive packages from small firms who are delivering first time
codesuela··on Why we moved from NodeJS to Ruby on Rails
How about Github?
codesuela··on Supporting IE Is Too Much Work

codesuela··on HTML9 Responsive Boilerstrap JS
brogrammers take note: this is only for rockstars
codesuela··on PHP Sucks: So What?
He's talking about building cookie cutter websites where the customer has a 10 USD hosting budget. For that PHP (including all the PHP CMS) is unbeatable however if this not the domain you want to be in there is no reason for you to be worried about getting your clients stolen by this guy
codesuela··on I only know PHP. How do I write a Web application in Python?
Python:

with open("filename", "r") as a_file:

    contents = a_file.read()
codesuela··on Apple rejecting applications which use Dropbox

codesuela··on "Gangbang Interviews" and "Bikini Shots": Silicon Valley’s Brogrammer Problem
yes I get that but how about going to gym, being groomed and well dressed and well versed WITHOUT conforming to the Bro stereotype, you know...like a INDIVIDUAL

It's not like you have the choice between being a BROgrammer or a PROgrammer. You can also be an Software Engineer that doesn't conform to either stereotypes or "subcultures" if you would call it that. People who call themselves brogrammes seem to lack the creativity to adopt a personal style that combines the best of both worlds: a smart, well dressed individual that enjoys working out without making a big fuss about it.

codesuela··on "Gangbang Interviews" and "Bikini Shots": Silicon Valley’s Brogrammer Problem
I find this whole brogrammer phenomenon ridiculous. It seems that it was a joke but now people start taking this stuff serious. I feel really embarrassed for people who describe themselves as brogrammers
codesuela··on Valve is developing Steam for Linux, says Michael Larabel of Phoronix
Valve disagrees, here is an excerpt about 2011 Steam statistics:

>Valve is celebrating a successful 2011, with its seventh straight year of more than 100% sales increases. The developer also revealed that the recent holiday sale pushed the number of simultaneous users over the five million mark, and a handful of other impressive stats.

The service now boasts 1,800 games and 40 million accounts, and in 2011 it pushed out 780 petabytes of data -- double the amount from 2010. 14.5 million copies of Steamworks games were registered, a 67% increase over 2010, and the suite is now included in more than 400 games.

Games are the only thing you can't run with good performance inside a VM. That's why you can always spin up a Windows VM if you need Photoshop but you HAVE to reboot if you want to enjoy a game. So yes, this would be definitely a game changer
