cod1r··on The Linux audio stack demystified (and more)
It had Fedora 36. So maybe Linux kernel 5.17

I have the latest kernel version now.

cod1r··on The Linux audio stack demystified (and more)
An issue I've experienced very often is that sometimes when my laptops goes to sleep and I wake it up, the speakers occasionally aren't switched to unless I restart pipewire. Same thing for headphones, sometimes when I plug them in, they aren't switched to unless I replug it in a couple of times. Might be hardware related but situations like this make me feel like I should just use linux for servers instead of for a personal computer.
cod1r··on Fast Crimes at Lambda School
What's funny is that I thought bloomtech had some relation to bloomberg and I also thought this austen allred guy was a big deal. I randomly DM'd him on twitter in 2022 thinking it was some superstar tech guy and he actually replied back; XD. Now that I know more about him...yea...I'm going to stay away.
cod1r··on The Weird Nerd comes with trade-offs
What industry scale problems does React solve? I don't have the most experience in React but it feels like it's gotten very complex in recent years.
cod1r··on Ageism Haunts Some Tech Workers in the Race to Get Hired
I definitely feel like it's the opposite. A lot of jobs require a proven track record with the number of years being like 5+ YOE. I graduated last may and still haven't gotten any offers. That being said, it's probably just me having a skill issue XD.
cod1r··on Rolldown: Rollup compatible bundler written in Rust
I would like to shill rsbuild/rspack. Haven't used it extensively but the experience has been ok so far. :)
cod1r··on The Dumber Side of Smart People
if there's one thing I've learned from these "smart" and "dumb" conversations, is that you can't really generalize a person. "Smart" and "dumb" are just lazy evaluations.
cod1r··on Claude 3 model family
AI is improving quite fast and I don't know how to feel about it

cod1r··on Netlify just sent me a $104k bill for a simple static site
Just looking at pages.cloudflare.com now and I think I'm going to be using cloudflare from now on.
cod1r··on Ask HN: Are there any good reasons to use C++ over Rust for new projects today?
From my perspective, if you really need the safety guarantees of Rust, use Rust, but if you are more comfortable with C++ and can be more productive with C++, use C++.

Doesn't really make sense to take a productivity hit for small gains in a context where safety isn't a necessity.

Just two cents from a junior person :)

cod1r··on Sora: Creating video from text
OpenAI is definitely cooking
cod1r··on Improving Interoperability Between Rust and C++

cod1r··on TCC RISC-V Compiler Runs in the Web Browser (Thanks to Zig Compiler)
This is super cool. I'm also trying to write a C compiler but in Rust and it's difficult.

A lot of layoffs seem to be on the news but the unemployment rate is still not that high according to https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-une...
cod1r··on How Open ID Connect Works
I've recently been looking into passkeys and it seems much simpler than this.

cod1r··on Safely open apps on your Mac
FYI, you can add whatever developer tool you use as an exception to privacy and security rules under "Developer Tools" in the "Privacy and Security" settings. I added my terminal emulator and it seems to let me run prebuilt, unsigned binaries without any annoyances.

I wish I was this talented when I was going into college. Nice job though. :)
cod1r··on The Yandex leak: How a Russian search giant uses consumer data
Yandex search is superior 100%. I use it too when I'm trying to reverse search for an image.
