cnu··on Ask HN: Anyone want to work through SICP together?
I too want to be in. Have been hanging around in chapter 2 for a very long time. But don't want to start on a new thing now. Have been working on many things lately and want to finish it off.
cnu··on [dead]
Yes. But what amused me wat the others who were also put in jail. Didn't know about them.
cnu··on What is the best project management application for start-ups?
It is free only for 2 persons.
cnu··on HN meet-up in Bangalore on Saturday 10th Jan at the Headstart conference?
Ah, I was thinking of going to the proto.in http://proto.in on Jan 23, 24 at Bangalore.
cnu··on Genetic Algorithm building a little car
What does the graph depict? What is the black and green lines mean?
cnu··on Storm - Python ORM from Canonical
Wasn't this really old news? I am pretty ok with sqlalchemy on my pylons/TG projects.
cnu··on [dead]
Shameless self promotion
cnu··on Ask HN: Recommend a server co in Europe
We use Hertzner (http://www.hetzner.de/) in my company. Pretty good machines and cheap too.
cnu··on Compendium of Beginner Erlang Resources
Great compilation. I have started looking at erlang and this would really help me a lot.
cnu··on Ask HN: How to convince a fellow programmer to join your startup
Infact this is one thing which really does work well with most people. Since good programmers are already working part time on projects which interests them, it becomes really easy to allow them to moonlight and join as full time a few months later.
cnu··on Ask HN: How to convince a fellow programmer to join your startup
Yeah. That is what I wanted to know. What do people who don't have the Reality Distortion Field do to persuade people?

The programmers I know are pretty good but they also have PHB (pointy haired bosses) and also hate some things of working in a big corporate.

cnu··on Helpful Resources on Web Crawling?
solr is a search engine (based on lucene which itself is a search engine). it won't help the OP as he wants to crawl websites. Maybe if he wants to search through the crawled data later, he can use it. I would recommend solr instead of lucene as it has faceted search and updates to documents which (i think ) was missing in lucene.
cnu··on Helpful Resources on Web Crawling?
Check out the Nutch crawler. It closely integrates with the Lucene search engine project.

If you want something which is very specific (like the hype machine) you can easily create a basic crawler in python. There is not much change in the crawling strategies. Just a basic programming knowledge and reading the documentation of the urllib module (in python) would be enough.

cnu··on Calling Y Combinators: Lessons from a “Serial First-Timer”
I like the part where he speaks about how one should be one's own surrogate customer. It is very difficult to be on the same track when starting a startup. Only if it is pain point for you, you will try to find the right solution.
cnu··on Rails is moving from SVN to Git
I think you can use any version control system with any project. I can't understand what prevented you from using Git for your Rails projects (unless you develop rails itself).
cnu··on Designing RedditRiver.com Website
Here is one project which does a cloud view of top news in reddit. The author has a python and a lisp version. http://nearfar.org/git.html But I can't get the url to the actual cloud view page.
cnu··on You weren't meant to have a boss
Most people I know of from college don't even care to look elsewhere for a job. All they wish is to get into some big company and switch jobs every 2 years to another big company. Also for those people, getting into anything small is not good enough to be told among friends.
cnu··on Codepad.org, a pastebin that executes code
Yeah. http://codepad.org/GH5l8Dgl :)
cnu··on Ask YC: Can Hackers and Non-Hackers co-found?
I think there must be (atleast) another pair of eyes which doesn't think in terms of bits and bytes. I am not a good web designer (I hate picking colors) and I prefer to ask someone else (definetely a non-hacker) the layouts and color combinations.
cnu··on Rails vs. Django
Agreed. Most of the frameworks have the 20 minute tutorial which (most of the time) is no way comparable to the type of work we will be doing with it.
