As long as you tip based on the non-discounted total I don't see the problem. Unfortunately many probably don't do this, which is why the waitress probably was unhappy to see a groupon customer.
Hasn't this always been true? Universities have always offered plenty of degrees in fields that are hard if not impossible to find good paying jobs in.
Reddit experienced some issues with Amazon a month ago that resulted in the site being down for almost a day. I'm pretty sure they're way below that percentage.
I'm not sure I quite agree. Any time I read anything about space, black holes, relativity etc. (which is way outside my field, I'm a programmer) I get that same sense of wonder. It's not gone, it's just that we don't have to wonder about the little stuff anymore. :-)
It's still happening with non smart-phones. I had t-mobile and was able to file transfer easily between phones. Verizon purposely locks this functionality out. Bullshit.
