You can see this example where I timed myself to deployment using AI tools to rewrite a show HN project in half an hour. The code is open source.

My comment was posted 2 hours after show HN when I saw it on front page so you know I didn’t lose track of time I spent.

I used claude + gemini to whip out a rewrite of a show HN project in less than half an hour to deployment yesterday.

But this sort of work is fairly low value and boilerplate-y.

Are they? I find Agentic mode on most editors barely useful. Autocomplete and inline editing is great though.

To use these tools properly, you need to know how to build the same thing precisely.

In my experience, most people participating are aware of it. The clueless people you see are minority. It’s not any different from lottery that people know they won’t win but still put money into except with better optics (skill vs luck)

Yes. I wrote how to do it technically. Claude was able to come up with a solution that worked on second attempt. The problem was it didn’t work with typescript nicely. The approach overcomplicated anything that depended on this class.

Chinese markets are competitive and cut throat on pricing in the consumer market. They have less government regulation aside from the media restrictions.

I don’t understand how this is communism vs capitalism. The current top chinese models are all released by private companies such as deepseek by a hedge fund who pivoted after government put restrictions on crypto trading.

Today, I needed to write a proxy[0] that wraps an object and log all method calls recursively.

I asked claude to write the initial version. It came up with a complicated class based solution. I spent more than 30 minutes getting a good abstract to come out. I was copy pasting typescript errors and applying fixes it suggested without thinking much.

In the end, I gave up and wrote what I wanted myself in 5 minutes.

Recently redesigned my site [1] and used nextjs app router (moved from page router).

The new paradigm of adding “use server”, “use cache”, and “use client” felt too magical by default.

Server actions are easy to forget adding validation and proper access control on. You need an external library to avoid the common pit falls.

I’ve been contemplating whether to move to something simple. The complexity creep is real.

Why not use notion and their website feature with custom domain? It has an extension to clip pages as bookmarks.

You could add it as a subdomain (bookmarks.website.com)

It’s easier to update compared to hosting your own CMS and frontend.
