clay··on Snapchat admits to handing unopened 'snaps' to US law enforcement
The article mentions law enforcement. I reckon these warrants are all for sex crimes.

It's interesting though... does anyone know of specific cases of the problems he's refering to?

clay··on Best of Vim Tips
An awesome way to learn new tricks is to hack with another vim user
clay··on Show HN: Github repo recommendation service
That's awesome. I didn't know about that.
clay··on Show HN: Github repo recommendation service
It might service some of your watched repos because of data quality issues. It uses a very basic nearest neighbor shared item set model. I'm definitely planning on improving the quality of the results in the near future.
clay··on Show HN: Kippt.com - Bookmarking made simple
Saving a snapshot of the page you bookmark at the moment you bookmark it is totally awesome. Great work guys.

clay··on Results for: Pick a number from 1 to 10
It is totally reasonable to assume that "random" from an unnamed distribution means the maximum entropy distribution, which is uniform in this case
clay··on Python's Mutable Default Problem
"stuff = stuff or []"

This would fail to have expected behaviour here:

fill_list = []

stuff = function(info, full_list)

print fill_list

use the if list is None: paradigm

clay··on Poll: How old were you when you started programming?
My high-school (The Science Academy of South Texas) offered computer science for incoming freshmen and later a CS 2 class. I assumed that this was normal because there was a CS AP exam.
clay··on The A.I. Revolution Is On
"Today’s AI doesn’t try to re-create the brain. Instead, it uses machine learning, massive data sets, sophisticated sensors, and clever algorithms to master discrete tasks."

The second sentence is basically my model for how the human brain works.

clay··on Stanford CS Book: Mining of Massive Datasets [pdf]
Chapter 2 of this book is awesome. Covers specific implementation and design strategies for map reduce matrix multiplication and table joins.
clay··on Your eyes suck at blue
This plays into something that Robin Hanson was doing with colors. Blue = Far Mode = grainy, picture unclear and far away. http://www.overcomingbias.com/2010/05/color-meanings.html

clay··on MIT OpenCourseWare pilots study groups with OpenStudy
The idea behind my site CoClass is to meet up in real life to watch lectures and do study groups. You can easily host a CoClass of SICP: http://coclass.com/c/v/f/mit_6001_structure_and_interpretati...

If you need me to change anything, fix bugs, or have any questions I would love feedback.

clay··on How to read research papers

clay··on Relocating from San Francisco to Seattle: cost comparison
Dallas: http://m.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=relocating+from+san+franc...

Dallas, Houston and Austin are super cheap with fairly big tech cultures. Austin might even be worth living in too.

clay··on Open Courseware - What's It Good For? Who's Using It?
HN might be interested in one of my projects, http://coclass.com, a website for people to meet up in real life and use open courseware materials together. The class we've been doing has been great. A small group meets once a week, we watch videos on a big TV and have good discussions afterwards.
clay··on Markets are efficient if and only if P = NP
He wrote it for a finance journal. That's how they do.
clay··on 3 Tesla Execs Dead In Palo Alto Plane Crash
When I had a motorcycle, I would ride it everywhere. I even rode it to the doctors office and carried in my helmet. I sat down with the doctor and when he mentioned my helmet, I was certain he was going to lecture me about it or at least tell me to be safe. He told me about the 900cc Ducati he had and we had a pretty long conversation about bikes and how much fun they were...

He'd be a lot easier to pack as a carry-on without the xray machines

It's funny how self-conscious that bird on the right looks.
clay··on Professors Who Blog
Maybe instead of killing spammy stuff like this you could have a "convert to Ask HN" button. This post could be converted to Ask HN: Professors Who Blog? It would be more fun, too.
