claviola··on When root meets immutable: OpenBSD chflags vs. log tampering
Are you using systemd-resolved? If so, it's actually a symlink to /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf, and all you need to do to manage it yourself is to turn it into a regular file of your own. This is explained in the admittedly very long commented out text above the actual directives.

claviola··on Linux guide for power users (2022)
> Debian no longer accepts 'init 0' as a command

I'm not sure where this affirmation comes from. Do you have "systemd-sysv" installed? What happens when you do run `init 0´?

init(1)[0] says:

For compatibility with SysV, if the binary is called as init and
is not the first process on the machine (PID is not 1), it will
execute telinit and pass all command line arguments unmodified.
That means init and telinit are mostly equivalent when invoked
from normal login sessions. See telinit(8) for more information.
telinit(8)[1]:

  The following commands are understood:

  0

Power-off the machine. This is translated into an activation
request for poweroff.target and is equivalent to systemctl
  poweroff.
> ipconfig isn't a command anymore

are you sure you're not mixing up the Windows command ipconfig[2] with the still ubiquitous ifconfig[3]? Even though it's considered deprecated in favor of iproute2's[4] "ip" command, I don't know any distro which has ceased making net-tools available, let alone unusable.

> systemd changed the whole subsystem from underneath me

I agree systemd has been pretty disruptive, but it has made me a lot more productive. Writing a unit file is dead simple, and it is capable of doing a lot of very interesting things. Hardening a unit is quite easy, for instance. You might already be aware of all that, but if not, I can drop some links on another reply.

Overall, from the one of your reply, I have the impression that you might be happier switching to a less opinionated distro like Void Linux or Gentoo. Something as curated as Ubuntu isn't a good fit for you.

claviola··on Announcing bpftune for Linux
From the blog post here: https://blogs.oracle.com/linux/post/introducing-bpftune

"A lot of lore accumulates around these tunables, and to help clarify why we developed bpftune, we will use a straw-man version of the approach taken with tunables:

“find the set of magic numbers that will work for the system forever”

This is obviously a caricature of how administrators approach the problem, but it does highlight a critical implicit assumption - that systems are static."

claviola··on Europe pushing for lunar time zone
I wasn't talking about software development by itself, but human behaviour.
claviola··on Europe pushing for lunar time zone
Sure, the leap second is a thing. We still represent the day as 24 hours for humans. They didn't seem to be talking about an "under the hood" hand waving of a significant part of the day.
claviola··on Europe pushing for lunar time zone
Do you honestly consider modifying the core idea of the 24 hour day to be a "slight tweak"? I can't even imagine how many different things rely on that assumption.

(and I'm sorry, but what does "naming months and seasons in Mars" have to do with this?)

claviola··on Sudo: Heap-based overflow with small passwords
That's all well and true, but it's an expected downside which you'd see with any software which needs to be properly configured to run. If a user doesn't know they should take this seriously by ensuring that a tool which potentially grants root privileges is correctly configured, that shouldn't stop others who know better.

I'm trying really hard to put aside the racist comments...

This still doesn't explain how these women are obtaining Israeli citizenship if polygamy is illegal.

claviola··on Israel passes law denying naturalization to Palestinian spouses
You've mentioned "third- and fourth- wives" multiple times in this thread. Can you clarify? Israel doesn't allow polygamy, so how does that work? And do you happen to have proof that there's a conspiracy to increase the Arabic population? And even if somehow there _is_ one, isn't that something a democratic country should not care about?
claviola··on What's Inside the EU Green Pass QR Code?
Why are you talking about fairness in a context like this? Is there any actual health benefit from fully vaccinated people waiting until everyone else is vaccinated? Also, you probably also incur less healthcare costs than they do, but you still contribute to the public healthcare system. Is this also an issue for you? Remember that the elderly also have more actual urgency, as they are much more likely to have less time to live than you.

Sure, if you don't think mass deforestation is cruel... Brazil is one of the biggest soy exporters in the world, and large swathes of rain forest and cerrado (savanna) have given way to soy farms.
