clarkdave··on Open webOS up and running on the Nexus 7
I grabbed a Touchpad in the sales. I only played around with it for a month or so but that was enough for the bezel to crack in places (a common occurrence I think). Certainly nowhere close to iPad-quality.

As for the internals... well, after that month I left mine gathering dust for a year whilst waiting for Android support to mature. I turned it back on to discover the touchscreen no longer worked. Someday I'll try and fix it, as it seems like it'd be a competent secondary Android tablet to leave around the house.

This is similar to how TypeKit serve their fonts. They wrote a blog post explaining their reasoning: http://blog.typekit.com/2011/08/11/better-web-font-loading-w...
clarkdave··on Braintree’s Payments Platform Launches Across Europe And Canada
Although GoCardless is great, it's not the same as a Stripe. Direct debits don't offer immediate transfer of funds[0] (they take a few days) which limits its suitability for a lot of e-commerce applications. As someone else mentioned, the lack of refunds is also an issue.

That said, for service invoicing, subscriptions, etc it's fantastic.

clarkdave··on Why we moved from NodeJS to Ruby on Rails
Only the CLI utility in Play used Python, and the newest version has replaced this dependency with Scala/SBT instead. I imagine the original reason for using Python for the CLI was because it's pretty damn easy to do that in Python.
clarkdave··on JS performance: try / catch versus checking for undefined
If you hit the 'major' filter above the graphs it'll bring them together.
clarkdave··on Organizing Your Backbone.js Application With Modules
I've had a great experience using http://brunch.io to organise Backbone applications. Separates everything out as this article suggests and adds a nice entry point to get started from. It's not as lightweight as organising things on your own, as it introduces CoffeeScript and Stylus into the mix. If you're happy with these technologies though it works quite well.
