cl8ton··on Requiem for Rod Serling
Great history on Rod Serling, I used to duck and cover watching TZ when younger. His voice was so convincing to me.

Here is a youtube clip of my favorite TZ episode 'Obsolete Man' which oddly reminds me of todays struggles between the tech vs non-tech workforce.

cl8ton··on C# Autocomplete Demo Using Bing Code Search Engine
I installed on VS2013 Ultimate wo/Resharper and here is how it worked for me.

The '///' then tab does nothing but when I start typing in the IDE however it kicks in with a much better Intellisense complete with the Bing snippets like depicted on the VS Gallery. So perhaps they limited the slash+tab sequence?

cl8ton··on Ask HN: My penmanship has gone to shit, what can i do?
Try writing more at least everyday to regain your old penmanship, this is what I do and it helps to a certain degree. Im not sure taking penmanship guides would teach you anything you don't already know?

I thought I was alone in this because I've noticed over the last 10 years my handwriting has become horrible!

cl8ton··on Poll: If Yoda was a programmer, what would be his go-to language?
C# obviously... do I win anything?
cl8ton··on Show HN: Monitor websites for changes with notification of what changed
I posted this here a while back and since its show hn day, thought I would give an update. We are now at 103k registered users and went to a paid model last month.

As always, would love feedback from the crowd here.

cl8ton··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of billable hours?
http://www.timetrackturbo.com ...Best I have found so far, easy to use and the developer is easily accessible. (No affiliation, I just use the product)
cl8ton··on Ask HN: What do you listen to while coding (and how)?
Depending on time of day

I either listen to Reggae (Banton or Tosh) or Swedish House Mafia (Techno) all via Youtube Channels

cl8ton··on Seymour Cray: "Cray-1 Introduction" (1976) [video]
Yes wire wrapping and hard wrapping the same thing.

Hard wrapping was something the current day mags called it (Popular Electronics) for one.

cl8ton··on Seymour Cray: "Cray-1 Introduction" (1976) [video]
Back in the bread boarding days, hard wrapping was using a tool to physically wrap a hair thin insulated wire from one pin on an IC to another pin on an IC.

Not using the PCB foil electrical path but rather a direct short path as possible wire connection between two points.

cl8ton··on Seymour Cray: "Cray-1 Introduction" (1976) [video]
Great seeing this again. I remember in its day Cray was like a mythical beast we only heard of since Gov was the only one with enough money to buy one.

The C configuration with hard wrapped wires were awesome. Hard wrapping was the fastest path for electrons from point A to B.

cl8ton··on A Look at the Formula 1 Steering Wheel
Forearm and leg pump battling lateral G forces, current day Fernando Alonso/Ferrari describes this during his race season if you following him.

During the Senna video above, he takes his hand off the steering wheel with 2+ lateral G’s to shift which is insane also. Today’s drivers paddle shift with both hands on the wheel.

cl8ton··on A Look at the Formula 1 Steering Wheel
A Bit Off Topic: If anyone has interest in how it was before smart steering wheels, here is a vid clip of the master Ayrton Senna at Monaco in real-time as it happened.

http://youtu.be/rh6bwZ4ooTI

It is deemed the best in car F1 vid of all times by fans. It is raw and not sped up.

cl8ton··on Postman: a powerful HTTP client (for Chrome) to test web services
Postman is exactly what I have been looking for. I used Fiddler for years and always thought it to be heavy and awkward to use. It's strange I never heard about Postman before this post.

I like working out of the browser and Postman has just the right amount of features I need.

cl8ton··on Why didn’t codeproject.com develop into what stackoverflow is today
Excellent points especially about the fiddles. One thing CP is really heavy into is the C/C++ realm, which can arguably apply to many platforms. I hope Chris Maunder reads HN and can chime in or start a new post on the future direction of CP.

It just seems CP reached a pinnacle years ago and then just let it ride (so to speak)

cl8ton··on Why didn’t codeproject.com develop into what stackoverflow is today
Yes CP is primarily geared towards Win, that’s mostly because they pre-date current day languages and frameworks.

But if they could fix comments and apply the same excellent moderation towards todays language, SO would have a definite competitor.

cl8ton··on Why didn’t codeproject.com develop into what stackoverflow is today
I have been using codeproject.com for many years because of its high quality posts and still use it today. SO has better advice in the comments.

When searching I’m always pleasantly surprised to see CP come up in the SERP because I know I will find great examples when going there.

cl8ton··on The problem with Googles algorithm change and naïve website owners
Websites linked on our CI website are the same website owners that hired sketchy SEO firms in developing countries to place as many links on the Internet to increase the backlink SEO juice, then Google changes their algo and I get angry emails from the very same website owners wondering why I link to them in the first place!

It’s a distraction (I even have the rel=’nofollow’ everywhere on my site) I have a form letter that I send to the website owners explaining that you should really choose your SEO firm wisely next time.

I know this is not Googles problem (except they are not honoring the nofollow) but what do you do to mitigate this?

cl8ton··on Poll: How long have you been programming?
First professional job was using the Clipper language (compiled dbase)... anyone else?
cl8ton··on Mercedes Is Owning This Formula 1 Season
I have been a fan of F1 since the days of Nigel Mansell and I have got to say I am no fan of the new direction of Formula 1 present day.

To me Formula 1 represents the pinnacle of engine/chassis engineering uninhibited by any green standard of the day. For once just let the creative minds of auto engineering have their day at the track and let the best team win.

There is nothing more sexy to a car guy than hearing a V10 scream down the straights at Fuji Speedway at 21k RPM and nothing more exciting than seeing a V10 engine detonate at 21k RPM. I certainly miss the days of Schumacher and Alonso battling in the final days of the V10 engine.

Mercedes may be currently winning it by the years of preplanning for this day, but the race is already over by using today’s standard.

EDIT: In case you never heard a V10 engine http://youtu.be/MGEqlNU30Tg

cl8ton··on WinJS: the Windows Library for JavaScript
We have been developing Lightswitch SPA Apps with VS2013.

WinJS is at the core of Lightswitch development coupled with JQueryMobile.

cl8ton··on Tesla Adds Titanium Underbody Shield and Aluminum Deflector Plates to Model S
Sounds plausible I Guess but I wonder how Tesla in this crash description circumvented Sir Isaac Newton’s laws of motion and the bodily damage the driver should have incurred on negative G's.
cl8ton··on Microsoft makes source code for MS-DOS and Word for Windows available to public
Too bad newer developers can’t fathom what a game changer MSDOS was back in the day.

I downloaded and dorked around with the code out of respect for what it did to PC’s 30 years ago. It’s interesting, I thought the codebase would be much larger than it is.

cl8ton··on The Creator of 'Doom' Is Now A Facebook Employee
Armadillo Aerospace was one of the few websites I visited regularly and was really dismayed when they went dark.

I really hope he returns to it and goes orbital, if Musk can do it JC can do it better IMO

cl8ton··on Mt. Gox Finds 200,000 Missing Bitcoins
In other shocking news it was also revealed by MtGox the first 100k BTC in the old wallet were actually the ones owned by MtGox and were thought stolen.
cl8ton··on GitHub's language detection is broken
I’ve been in the programming trenches since early 90’s fluent in 5 languages at the production level and have to say I have never heard of the language 'Limbo’. I don’t fault GitHub one bit.

I suppose I could Google it and act like I know… naw

cl8ton··on How the Mig-31 repelled the SR-71 Blackbird from Soviet skies
I suspect its karma building posts.

I noticed the phenomena when an off topic post gets popular real quick and makes the FP, other related stories quickly get posted.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, its just something I’ve noticed.

EDIT: Just saw ChuckMcM's post. Didn't mean to be redundant, but I'll leave it here anyways.

cl8ton··on Ask HN: Are stealing Bitcoins a zero sum game for thieves?
You’re right you can’t tell if they’re stolen, but if >10% in circulation are stolen (and growing daily) why would a legit company like overstock.com (just to name one) take them knowing this?

And if they did, why would I trust them knowing that?

cl8ton··on [dead]
Kills it on Windows 8 also. Chrome Version 33.0.1750.146 m
cl8ton··on Learn to type before you learn to code
I used to type extremely fast but over the years I developed nerve damage in my left hand from what docs told me was bad posture and bad keyboards.

5 years ago I switched to a split keyboard and now type half as fast but surprisingly I’m more efficient.

cl8ton··on Ask HN: What public API to use for language detection?
Thanks, I never heard of your second one... checking it out now.
