cjm42··on Show HN: Interactive Rubik's Cube with sub-puzzles for solution steps
I find the controls very confusing. It's hard to guess whether I'm going to make a move or reorient the cube. Usually, it makes a move when I'm trying to reorient the cube.
cjm42··on When X-Rays were used at the Shoe Store
There was an episode of American Restoration that featured a machine like this. They restored it (minus the X-ray part) with a stock X-ray picture so it would look like it still worked.

Did you listen to English audio with subtitles in your native language, or dubbed audio with English subtitles?
cjm42··on BountySource have turned evil – alternatives?
Which is basically the opposite of a bounty system. Liberapay is no substitute for BountySource; instead, it's competing with services like Patreon.

The good driver consists of P1+C1+X. That's what gets sent to the signing authority. They verify it doesn't do anything bad and return a signature listing SHA1(P1+C1+X). But that signature is also valid for the malicious driver P2+C2+X.

I use Pobox Basic ($20/year) + AllMail ($10/domain to forward all addresses at that domain) [1].

Mail for anybody@example.com goes to Pobox, which forwards to me@home.example.com (my home server). My server is configured to send all outgoing mail through Pobox's servers, which avoids the problem of people blocking residential SMTP.

cjm42··on WordPress theme provider Pipdig using customer sites to DDoS competitors
NearlyFreeSpeech.NET has strong free-speech policies. But they do expect you to be technically competent. If you're not comfortable with the command line and wp-cli (if you're using WordPress), you probably won't be happy with them.

If you checked them out years ago, they've since added support for custom HTTP servers. It's not as flexible as a VPS, but they're no longer limited to static files, PHP, or CGI. You can now run Django, Ruby-on-Rails, etc.

cjm42··on Nikoli Puzzles
The iOS app is my favorite timekiller. It doesn't hide the clock, it starts up really fast (no splash screen), it has no ads, it uses only 3.7MB storage, and it's free.
