I moved about 50% of my capital back into ETFs though before WWDC in case they dumped a turd on the table.
Good luck to them.
For the last 35 years both professionally and as a hobbyist I've just soldered stuff to bits of copper clad board. On one-off items like test rigs etc, these are then screwed to the inside of the lid of a Hammond box.

(check Appendix F in particular)
I learned never to take anything of value into school.
My kids learned the same thing in the same way.
So the correct answer is to tell your kids to tell them to get fucked and call you. At that point, remind them that the device is your property, decline their request and they can only threaten you, which is 100% illegal.
I am more worried about the teachers from experience than the other students. Some of them I have encountered over the last 15 years of having three kids at school have been right nasty pieces of work and should not be in a position to have power over a minor.
For example the barrister friend in question's daughter had her phone confiscated and it went missing in custody of the staff. The school disclaimed all responsibility but paid the moneyclaim out for a new phone quietly when the relevant stick was wielded and removed their policy of confiscation immediately as they worked out it was a liability. Turns out that while the law says they can do this, it doesn't mention anything about having no duty of care of other people's property at the same time...
Teach your kids critical thinking instead.
My phone helps gets me to places I can go and touch things. And take photos with it. It's just a tool. Encourage those uses. It's not the device, it's the users' choice in how they use it.
While not essential for any of these, it's a tool which you can leverage for all of these to improve things.
Edit: not to mention the iPad+apple pencil which is just another way of creating art...
Teach don’t preach.
As I quoted elsewhere, any extremist or reductionist position makes things worse for them.
Absolutes on either end of the spectrum just lead to extremism which helps no one. This headline (the article one and the HN summary) are just extremism via reductionism. You can reduce this entire thing to a point but it deprives them of their instinctive tool using and building mentality.
1. This is really cool! How amazing! We can do so much with this.
2. User activity drops off fairly quickly.
3. Oh they want money? Lets wait until the trial expires.
4. Not renewed.
Which is exactly what the personal context thing is about, so what the hell is this complaining about?
As for the parenting advice, it sounds like it comes from a poorly written textbook written by someone who watched an TV advert about a child's bedtime. Note: parent of three / professional terrorist negotiator. That's not how it goes down most of the time for most parents. The reading and activity time is mostly opportunistic until they get to the point they read their own books and want to talk about them. Best to spend time teaching them to read when they are not burned out and exhausted as well.
Anyone who is technical in those orgs is either very junior and stepped straight in a cow shit out of college, has a pension they are counting down to or is so utterly disinterested that they don't give a shit about anything other than the coffee break or the end of the day.
My capacity in those orgs was the overpaid consultant who came in, looked at what they were doing and told them they were stupid in a huge word document and then leave with a pocket full of cash with no changes ever being made.
