cipehr··on Show HN: Rift – A tiling window manager for macOS
After playing with it for all of 30 seconds, my thoughts are: 1. It's ridiculously fast. Not that it matters that much, Aerospace is fine for me. 2. I somehow doesn't require any accessibility permissions... so it "just works" after running the CLI... 3. One thing I immediately noticed, is that it looks like moving a window to be accordion can be done in the same workspace?

So far I'm very impressed... not sure if I'm impressed enough to switch yet though... but being in rust does make it slightly easier for me to contribute

What’s happening with io in the future?
cipehr··on Time needed to factor large integers
Faster than what? Are you factoring in the time to build the lookup table for primes greater than a google?
cipehr··on Dotfiles feel too personal to share
I feel similarly. For me it’s less about my unique customizations and more about this paranoia of there being something remotely sensitive in my ssh configs or something… the idea of hostnames, ips, domains, etc “leaking” worries me.

I use chezmoi to manage my dotfiles, if anyone has any advice on how to handle these worries I am all ears. I would love to share mine, even to just be able to point coworkers at my config.

cipehr··on You can now uv run a GitHub gist
I took gp’s comment to mean something more like deno. Deno is nice because you can explicitly allow/deny filesystem, network, etc. in an ergonomic way like `—-allow-fs`

So not sure it would necessarily be ergonomically worse. It could even be a new run command `uv srun` or something…

cipehr··on Build real-time knowledge graph for documents with LLM
sorry, what is `o3`? I am not familiar with it... unless you're talking about the open api chat gpt model?

If so thats crazy, and I would love pointers on how to prompt it to suggest this?

cipehr··on EA Open Sources Command and Conquer: Red Alert, along with other games
The word you're looking for is "gift." That is a gift.
cipehr··on My LLM codegen workflow
thank you, I will try this too. I feel like I didn't have to do this much work with other models like o1/o3/4o... but if it provide the return value I'm hearing from the hype around Claude I am willing to try.
cipehr··on My LLM codegen workflow
Awesome, thanks for the reassurance. I’ll stick with it and keep trying to improve my usage
cipehr··on My LLM codegen workflow
Thank you very much for the ideas here, i will try the approach of giving it context. I havent got into cursor, since i use helix and intellij… i need to look into the MCP server thing

Thanks again!

cipehr··on My LLM codegen workflow
Am I the only one that doesn’t see the hype with Claude? I recently tried it, hit the usage limit, read around found tons of blogs and posts from devs saying Claude is the best code assistant LLM… so I purchased Claude pro… and I hate it. I have been asking it surface level questions about Apache spark (configuring the number of tasks retries, errors, error handling, etc.) and it hallucinated so much, so frequently. It reminds me of like ChatGPT 3…

What am I doing wrong or what am I missing? My experience has been so underwhelming I just don’t understand the hype for why people use Claude over something else.

Sorry I know there are many models out there, and Claude is probably better than 99% of them. Can someone help me understand the value of it over o1/o3? I honestly feel like I like 4o better.

cipehr··on Shunpo: Minimalist bash tool to make directory navigation a little bit faster
Interesting approach. Since I've converted entirely to nushell, I'm using zoxide to solve this navigation friction. https://github.com/ajeetdsouza/zoxide

The only thing I'm missing from zsh is path aware auto completion... supposedly this works if you enable the sqlite history for nushell but iirc it was buggy.

cipehr··on Little Snitch feature nobody knows about
I haven't used little snitch in nearly 15 years... I love all the security focused apps that objective-see puts out, and they have a Little Snitch equivalent "LuLu".

Does anyone know if the same thing can be achieved with LuLu? https://objective-see.org/products/lulu.html It looks like it can but I haven't used it yet.

cipehr··on Gleam Is Pragmatic
The author links to a blog post talking about railway oriented programming in f#.. it might be fair to assume they are aware of f#
cipehr··on How not to say the wrong thing (2013)
I understand your point but the article quite literally says: “Here are the rules. The person in the center ring can say anything she wants to anyone, anywhere.”

I think GP has valid points about this “rules” impact.

cipehr··on Show HN: 3 years and 1M users later, I just open-sourced my "Internet OS"
Oh man I remember BartPE and customizing the apps bundled with it… thanks for the memories.

I’ve been using beancount for almost 1.5 years now, and other than having to explicitly open accounts I love it! I use the fava UI to have all the nice modern visuals: https://beancount.github.io/fava/
cipehr··on World's biggest wind turbine shows the disproportionate power of scale
Does anyone know why vertical wind turbines didn’t take off?

I remember reading an article in popular mechanics about them years ago (found it [1]) and it seemed like a superior turbine…
