cinntaile··on The French are painting their windows with chalk to beat the heat
People have no issues heating their house during colder months, but cooling them during warmer months... No they can't do that, that's bad for the environment. Both require energy to change the temperature a certain number of degrees, they're not any different.
cinntaile··on If You're Searching for a New Skillet, Consider Stainless Steel
Watch out with scrubbing sponges though. Assuming it's one of those sponges that has a rough and a smooth side, sometimes the rough side contains abrasives (sand?) that will leave marks on stainless steel!
cinntaile··on GitHub Banned All CI for Our (OSS) Org Because of Bad Drive-By Contributors
I just use my password to login to my free github account, bu it's not like 2FA stops bots anyway. It just makes it a little harder.
cinntaile··on If You're Searching for a New Skillet, Consider Stainless Steel
Cleaning is not always super easy. I have come across plenty of situations where hot water and detergent take ages. Steel wool on the other hand gets rid of everything very fast.
cinntaile··on TIL: You can make HTTP requests without curl using Bash /dev/TCP
He probably means using curl directly. Indirectly it's still curl the LLM will default to, but that is an implementation detail.
cinntaile··on Firewood Splitting Simulator
It bothers me that I can split a log in 3 parallel pieces, rotate 90 degrees and then magically can split the middle piece. That's physically difficult! Besides that it was fun.
cinntaile··on Ask HN: Could someone please invite me to Lobste.rs?
They have an IRC channel, you can probably get one there.
cinntaile··on Trial of 12mph bike lane speed limit grinds gears of Dutch cyclists
Your suggestion would completely kill e-bikes, I don't think that is a good idea. Above a certain speed limit they should need to ride on the regular road though. On a regular e-bike you don't get up to 25km/h without putting in the effort. If their mental capacities are that far gone, they won't be able to go that fast anyway. They'll top out at 20km/h or something.
cinntaile··on Leaving Mozilla
There were a few years where it was hard to justify using Firefox, it was just so slow compared to Chrome at the time. Nowadays it's fine again.
cinntaile··on Fable 5 burns tokens fast. I found an cost tracker for it
Just say you made it, that's ok here.
cinntaile··on Ask HN: Would it be useful to have a slop button in addition to flag?
You should use an LLM.
cinntaile··on OneDrive data now has an expiry date
You can change that setting in Windows so that it no longer has a 255 character limit.
cinntaile··on Iran Shock Jolts Asia and Europe to Speed Up Energy Transition
I see, thanks for confirming that you're just an ignorant troll. Your post history confirmed that once more. It does make me curious. Where do you drink your Kool-Aid that gives you these "opinions"?
cinntaile··on Iran Shock Jolts Asia and Europe to Speed Up Energy Transition
I can't think of any European government that is far left? I am not familiar with all of them of course, so happy to be proven wrong.
cinntaile··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
Imagine that, after I specifically called it a "joke". Result.. An irrelevant low quality meta discussion.
cinntaile··on Websites have a new way to spy on visitors: analyzing their SSD activity
You make a reasonable point, while kilobytes might be too little it probably shouldn't be 30gb. 5gb might be ok. In the settings it should be possible for the user to set their own limit. I am not familiar with browser storage but there is hopefully a mechanism to inform the user that their limit might not be enough.
cinntaile··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
You are the one ruining this discussion, it's worrying that you don't even realize it. I pointed out that models change quite a bit over time (I said more than that) and you ridicule my reply. "Your fault. You should have used a model from 0.000005 seconds ago!"

Civilised. Please.

cinntaile··on Websites have a new way to spy on visitors: analyzing their SSD activity
There's a whole trend with websites not uploading anything to their servers due to privacy and whatnot, where do you suppose the data is being saved for repeat visits...
cinntaile··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
Try to put in a little more effort next time. It makes for better discussions instead of "jokes" that aren't even relevant.
cinntaile··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
Reading is difficult.
cinntaile··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
I don't know, the weather?
cinntaile··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
Change happens fast, a year old model is pretty outdated.

I'm sure it can happen, hence why I said to keep an eye out. Its main mode of operation is not to cook the tests however.

cinntaile··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
You have to keep an eye on them, but they don't just make tests pass.
cinntaile··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
Which is also the only way that makes sense... Permanent residency but you have to be... Outside the country? lol
cinntaile··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
In the EU you can apply for a permanent residency card when you're in the country. One of the prerequisites is how long you have been in the country where you're applying. It seems unlikely the other countries have the same policy as the US has now.
cinntaile··on Ask HN: OpenAI, SpaceX/xAI, Anthropic all to IPO, is this a sign of the peak?
Yes
cinntaile··on Ask HN: What are you working on (non-AI)?
Post it somewhere else, this is for non-AI projects.
cinntaile··on CPanel's Black Week: 3 New Vulnerabilities Patched After Attack on 44k Servers
They have a big target on their back so the low hanging fruit is (mostly) gone.
cinntaile··on I'm scared about biological computing
Do you mean we'll input their brains with an alternate reality or just removing their pain and distress signals?

Regardless of the answer. Lab meat still seems more ethical, it was never a sentient being in the first place.

cinntaile··on A couple million lines of Haskell: Production engineering at Mercury
Now you can develop the lib in the direction that you need and you have people on payroll that do it, this seems like good risk management.
