It’s different kinds of people. I know more people with an apple mx computer than with a gaming computer (people have a console to game or nothing at all).
Electric cargo bikes solve so many problems I don't even know where to begin. Faster than cars in traffic, cheaper, easier to service, extremely flexible in configuration, modular, hackable, healthier, quieter, etc. They can carry a week's worth of grocerys and you don't even need to sweat. I have lost track of all the companies popping up in the last years with new products in the space like urban arrow [1], onomotion [2], babboe [3], carla cargo [4].
I'm in the exact same situation but in Germany! The best content I found is a channel of a driving instructor who puts up long videos with barely any editing where he lets pupils drive the exact routes used in driving tests and explains what went wrong or what to watch out for.
When a nuclear power plant has a failure as catastrophic as that in Chernobyl it is active (radioactive) for a _very_ long time, with no way of shutting it down. The immediate site of the power plant will be uninhabitable for about 20,000 years, however, the wider area might become safe to live in in just a couple of hundred years. While radiation levels decrease in general, there have also been measurements of increasing radiation in 2021.
While this is true it's also not uncommon for signage to be faulty, i.e. not following official regulations, or invalid unfortunately. Most often at construction sites.
Reading this as an argument that more resources means bugs are fixed quicker I have to disagree, [there's][0] [many][1] [examples][2] of big bucks software productions with notable long-lived bugs in production.
I've been riding a VanMoof in Berlin since May and it has been broken in some way almost all of the time. Wouldn't want to switch for any other bike regardless, it's that much fun.
The issue is with lossy scaling. I also have a 4k monitor but you can clearly see a difference in clarity if you select anything other than 3840x2160 (1x, everything is tiny) or 1920x1080 (2x, everything is huge).
They are removing dislikes because dislikes bring negativity to the YouTube space. Imagine what getting dislikes feels like when you have put your heart into a video. People expressing their disapproval without a qualifying comment is not constructive.
This discussion is following every discussion of online recipes. Let me add my own argument: When I am looking for a specific recipe I am not interested in the extra content. However, when I am following a person's recipe blog I want to have that extra content. Having just a feed of recipes is just not that interesting as a collection of stories and accompanying recipes. The stories make it personal and it's nice to get glimpses into the life of the person doing the cooking. As a blogger it's also more fun to share more than recipes - you are writing a blog after all, not just a cookbook. If the ad revenue rises as a result of that - it's a nice bonus.
It would be good to be transparent about this process. You can tell me that I am not the first pick and may get an offer if a spot frees up and I will prefer that to hearing nothing back.
Engineers are controlling interactions of single users, even though they are not sitting there as it happens and making decision after decision. The algorithm however, acts as an extended mind of the actual engineers that effects the engineer's choices and decisions. This dynamic is hard to communicate and I think the visual chosen by the show works quite well.
You should give https://www.komoot.de/ a try. It has a well-designed UI, very good routing, voice navigation (crucial for biking imo) and includes one map region for free.
I agree with you. Public figures need to be held to a higher standard than everyone else for their behavior and statements, but they deserve the same compassion as everyone else. It's fine to criticise Zuckerberg but this is just bullying.
In Firefox I really miss the ability to tab-search from the address bar in site-specific search engines. I.e. in order to search for something on Amazon: type "amaz", tab, then type a search term. I didn't find any extensions for Firefox that would provide this feature.
I am using fathom [1] for this. They allow hosting the backend yourself and your analytics are not publicly accessible. Biggest con is that each installation can only track one domain as of now.
I liked the format but I think it could be improved a lot by (1) a way to disable the auto-forwarding to the next page, (2) an indication of the overall length of the piece and my position in it and (3) a unique URL for each page, so that I can I use other browser features like bookmarking, backward/forward buttons, etc. In fact I hit the back button because I expected this and then had to start over from the beginning because my progress was lost.
I was about to write that certified timber has a great sustainability record. You can recycle all of it and when it regrows it does so by pulling carbon from the atmosphere. But when I read the WP article [1] on sustainability of paper I saw that the actual problem seems not to be in the wood used, but in other pollutants released into nature when producing paper.
