For smaller users I can imagine this sort of thing happens pretty regularly with every cloud, even smaller ones.
Please reply if you had a TAM and were spending that much! I'd be personally interested to hear that was the case.
I know if nobody else does anything I will do something myself, personally.
I love Kubernetes, however I feel like things like Nomad and Mesos have a space to exist in as well. Nomad especially holds a special place in my tech-heart. :)
If someone is excited about sharing something that's completing some part of their collection I think everyone is totally fine with that, it's something they're passionate about!
If it's "I found this thing for cheap and I'm going to charge someone hundreds of dollars because they have no other choice," then do it in something other than a hobby space; don't brag about that. Bragging about scalping makes you an asshole.
Emulation enables hobbyists to play games they otherwise can't find -- or much more commonly, can't afford.
I haven't worked at that job for almost a decade, and last I heard it's continued being used with only a small amount of maintenance.
That's the most compliments I've ever gotten for any software I've ever written and it had very real human impact.
Fedora has also worked OK for me in the past.
I think this is the benefit of not being a public company. They’ve pivoted over and over and over. They’re still in the same space (video games) and the breadth of the areas they’re in are immense!
I will be trying it out solely based on this first impression. :)
i'm using this all over our production environment and it's very nice.
I think modern solutions would be any of the recent Clickhouse based solutions.
Loki exists but it seems to have a tragically small market share.
I feel much more productive in write-first teams. Meetings can be done over Zoom then, and they’re always short and productive. Anything works at that point.
You should be using the OIDC login method most of the time for MFA, and not their built-in MFA.
I’m unsure if the equivalent software is worth the price when compared to Vault and not sure I can seriously suggest anything else even if I hate this new license.
The challenge with this setup is that you need to do 1 writer and multiple reader clusters so you end up doing localhost replication which is super weird. If that requirement was somehow removed that’d be awesome for scaling really huge clusters.
There are still some 'editor' positions, however they don't pay very well and I'd imagine they won't be around long either.
Not to take a negative view, it's just an unsexy skillset and doesn't attract a lot of talent and attention.
Trying to hire for folks who can gracefully manage on-premise networks, power, and hardware is possible and extremely challenging. "Cloud," as it is today, is here to stay.
Also they basically only use OSS versions, they could go give Hashicorp some money to solve their Vault problems. They could probably partner with SecondQuadrant for PG as two examples. That might not make sense for their business though.
Hard problems are hard no matter the choice.
