That's what OP is confused about - why anyone would buy an experimental car without knowing it has potential to be worthless. The lack of parts on a novelty ice car has the same issue when the company folds.

chucksta··on 'Extremely impressive': melanoma jab trial results excite doctors
Its a post covid thing here, but has been common in the UK for a long time. I imagine it sounded better during covid in the US than our traditional terms.

chucksta··on Carpenter's AirTags help uncover 'massive' case of stolen tools in Maryland
Maybe you are familiar. But the point of calculating per item was to show its easy to take thousands of dollars out of the back of a truck in an instant. Most are targeted, as in this case as it was the second time, and not a crime of opportunity like you experienced.
chucksta··on Carpenter's AirTags help uncover 'massive' case of stolen tools in Maryland
> Even if each of the victims reported them to the police, the value of the items from each theft wouldn't add up to much in the grand scheme of things.

I don't think you know how expensive commercial power tools and accessories are.. They cited 15k items with a range of 3-5 million. At 3 million that's $200 an item. Hardly peanuts.

The article also says the tools likely came from a variety of sources

chucksta··on Global tourism is booming. These people would rather it wasn't
They are saying foreigners consuming for private use/cleaning money and taking them off the market entirely is a separate and greater issue. Not for rental.

chucksta··on Microsoft's AI will be inside Minecraft, and other Xbox, PC games
Yeah that's what I was kinda getting at, "lets put this somewhere people are going to interact with it and learn but the stakes are very low"
chucksta··on Carmakers Will Give Your Location to Police Without a Warrant, Senators Say
Maybe in an ideal world but in my area the city can barely keep up with things like basic infrastructure maintenance and trash. Don't think there is a lot of room for things like foresight.

Also have a little issue with things like speeding laws and the police not even following them. I was almost hit by a cop blowing a stop sign literally yesterday.

chucksta··on Tesla's Sales in Europe Fall to a 15-Month Low
It means you are comparing apples to oranges. You wouldn't comparing a chevy spark to a mid range lexus they are optimized for different markets.

chucksta··on We are a step closer to taxing the super-rich
The US Federal government at best technically, not literally, prints its own money.

The Fed is an independent organization with US Federal oversight. It is responsible for the call to issue more money but a government body prints it.

chucksta··on We are a step closer to taxing the super-rich
I guess it comes down to how one answers the question - do taxes exist to support the country and its means, or enforce economic distribution with the benefit to social welfare?
chucksta··on Fiat brings back its 500e electric model for 2024, with 149 mile range

chucksta··on The United States of Avocado
It is an there are, Avocado's aren't as high on that list here because they can grow naturally in SW USA. There is a greater concern with almonds and alfalfa in the area.
