chucksta··on FDA Authorizes Juul E-Cigarettes
I don't know. But they clearly don't have a lot of money, a refined pallet, and don't mind crazy flavors. Everyone I know seemed to have tried it in a particular time in their lives, and oddly they don't seem to drink it anymore.

A 2025 is probably something like 10x the cost too..

chucksta··on National Weather Service no longer translating products for non-English speakers
PA Dutch at home but they are certainly taught English in their schools, they do in fact interact with their local communities and would need to know it.
chucksta··on American shakedown: Police won't charge you, but they'll grab your money
It is not typical to get into multiple 10s. Generally speaking you'd only use that kinda cash in a private transaction, some people just find it more appealing in a deal. One less thing to "go wrong" I guess.

There generally isn't a good reason and that's most of the logic to the forfeiture. Its not in the bank because someone didn't want to disclose were it came from (required in deposits in more than 10k USD).

chucksta··on Ask HN: How much employee resume verification is done in practice?
They've been burned more times and therefore do more investigation to keep that from happening in the future

chucksta··on US will ban cancer-linked Red Dye No. 3 in cereal and other foods
Why would they not just use less dye to reduce the colors in Canada then? Surely its more effective to produce them in one way instead of two.

chucksta··on X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe'
It's a non-story. Who needs to know X erroneously blocked 1 link to NPR? And what's with the title?

>X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be ‘unsafe’

Is it one link or many?

chucksta··on Paper straws are often touted as alternative to plastic, but they're toxic
Its almost like I picked an extreme example intentionally and then made a joke about it to illustrate it was intentional. I wrote my point you missed it.

Which did I say? "almost entirely subjective" or "entirely subjective"? Where did I write the quote "I think pretty paint on lips is just as important as water because everything is subjective"? I remember writing "context independent" tho as to indicate it's not about lipstick its about semantics of defining a need

chucksta··on Türkiye Bans Roblox
No they wouldn't. So why would you make it even harder for them by addressing it in a name/language other then the primary target audience
chucksta··on Paper straws are often touted as alternative to plastic, but they're toxic
Huge difference, one might say life and death. Neither do I but want vs need is almost entirely subjective.

>Ultimately it is a choice though

That's my point, context independent

chucksta··on Paper straws are often touted as alternative to plastic, but they're toxic
Schematics - you mean people _want_ water if they _want_ to live and _want_ to do it in a healthy manor?
chucksta··on Türkiye Bans Roblox
Updating everything, teaching everyone, no benefit to English speakers besides being nice. What happens next year if they wanna switch it back? And then the year after that if it changes again?

How many countries go through some sort of rebrand in a year? Who gets respected and who doesn't? Why?

Or we could just keep calling it what we call it.

chucksta··on Türkiye Bans Roblox
Then English would be using a German word, much like the rest of the english language. It doesn't magically make it English

A substantial part of the US population isn't going to know where the Ivory coast is, even less so if you call it Côte d’Ivoire, or why you're saying it in French.

"Separation of church and state" is a metaphor paraphrased from Thomas Jefferson and used by others in discussions of the Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

chucksta··on The sinister, shocking rise of dog attacks on postal workers
My issue is with the word brandish, its making it read dramatic. You can't wave a dog around in an angry way.

You should also have your daughter walk on the non-street side of the sidewalk in case a car jumps the curb. Is that something your should need to do? Its life.

chucksta··on [dead]
What if he's really into gerrymandering?
chucksta··on The sinister, shocking rise of dog attacks on postal workers
People are waving their dogs at you and your daughter? Your angry feelings must be palpable to them and their trying to cheer you up.
