It’s a shame because I love breakout!
The M series was and still is generations ahead of x86. There is no competition from anyone else.
Their AirPods routinely score the best on noise cancellation performance, battery etc.
The iPad (even though arguably “out of place” platform) is the only tablet device anyone actually uses.
MacBook hardware pre-ram price issues was incredible. My wife has a NEO and I was floored at how much it was like my m4.
They did some pretty good marketing at convincing us they don’t sell our data to third parties. I assume this is still the case.
I’m a long term PC enthusiast, I’m old enough to have played games on dos. I daily drove Linux on gaming laptops and MacBook clones. I have a custom machine running Bazzite for my gaming needs.
In the last couple of years I made serious attempts to switch to Linux from windows for my main development machine but it was pretty unreliable experience across all the distros I tried (fedora was the most stable), so I bit the bullet and bought a Mac mini, the only complaint has been related to thunderbolt and it’s unreliable hubs.
It replaced an i9-14900k and did it with almost no change in performance and it doesn’t sound like I’ve got a leaf blower in my office.
Arguably the platform I’m least happy with is the iPhone. It was at is best 5 years ago and just gets buggier every release.
It’s impossible to not sound like an Apple shill but this has been my experience for 35 years of computing.

I'm reasonably familiar with the hardware, I've written some games from scratch and I still have absolutely no idea how they did most of it.
Because AI generated code is STILL complete ass. Even Fable, even whatever custom Pi/opencode leet code harness you have, the output is awful, and, if you cannot distinguish the quality of your code vs the AI's, I've got some bad news for you.

I can get a used MacBook Air M1 for £250 which beats the Minibook in every regard and it can run Linux.
I've literally never seen an advert outside of a 3rd party app or website on any Apple device I've owned (many).
It just does not generate good useable code. I have to review every single change to a higher degree than I would my own code because it likes to slip in hidden nasties. I have to rewrite at least 50% of what it generates.
That being said, I know devs who swear that they don’t even write code anymore. Like this rust port. I can’t even fathom blindly merging something his massive.
I recently completed Stellar Blade with zero issues.
I don’t even shutdown the machine, I just hit the power to sleep it. Instantly resumes where I left off.
Incredible to see just how far it’s come.
I buy most of my physical games from eBay too
Another thing I don’t see mentioned is code quality.
Vibe-coded code bases are an excellent example of why LLMs aren’t very good at writing code. It will often correct its own mistakes only to make them again immediately after and Inconsistent pattern use.
Recently Claude has been making some “interesting” code style choices, not inline with the code base it’s currently supposed to be working on.
