He’s great. I used his Money (for managing money values as cents in the db), Liquid and DelayedJob in a bunch of projects.

Now I run my own Shopify store, selling my software.

> one of the most unstable times in history

I can think of far more unstable times in history than the times we’re living in now, recent examples being WW1 & 2, nuclear threat during the Cold War.

christocracy··on Leak reveals $2T of possibly corrupt US financial activity
I wire-transfer tens-of-thousands of USD / month from my bank to my wealth-management company for perfectly valid reasons (e-commerce revenue), primarily to exchange to CAD (far better rate than bank) for funding payroll and/or purchase Investments.

With each transfer, my investment company has me fill-out / sign a form declaring Source of Funds.

If the gov’t finds anything suspicious, there’s an airtight paper-trail for all these transactions.

Nothing to see here.

I’m 48 and I rent a nice place at $2100/month. All my loot is invested in balanced 60/40. 0 debt.

Absolutely, if you’ve won the house lottery, cash out now, invest and rent a nice place.

christocracy··on 30-year U.S. bond yields less than S&P dividend rate
It doesn’t make sense to pay off the mortgage when money is essentially free, where interest rate is lower than inflation.

I believe it does make sense to invest what you can now in a balanced and diversified 60/40 portfolio. The current market turmoil is mere noise in the long term.

The fundamentals are still solid. Companies continue to make profits and hire people.

christocracy··on Why has progress stalled? (2014)
The invention of the transistor was stunted by ~5 years because of ww2, when Shockley, Bardeen and Brattain were redirected to war projects, such as bomb sights, magnetic detection of submarines and radar.

christocracy··on Why does gigabit internet via coax cable not offer symmetrical speed like fiber?
While I stewed after the dotcom crash during early 2000s, I had a short 2-year gig working as a headend tech for a small cable company.

It’s not about demand, it’s about climbing poles and rolling bucket-truck crews to replace filters and other expensive equipment on a massive scale.

The top comment in the link there is spot-on. https://superuser.com/a/1519918

I was involved with the “digital switchover”, moving the traditional analog channels over to the digital QAM channels, potentially freeing those now duplicated analog channels for upload channels. Maybe more upload is technically possible but the work on the poles is going to be expensive.

[edit] oops, pasted duplicate.

christocracy··on Flutter: UI platform designed for ambient computing
Over 5 years ago, I created a background-geolocation plugin for Cordova. I later ported it to React Native and now flutter. It’s not every plugin that could be monetized. Geolocation, especially in the terminated state, is a special case.

Background geolocation for iOS / Android is all I do.

christocracy··on Flutter: UI platform designed for ambient computing
Build an app. There are many things in the plugin api that you don’t interact with in the app. The plugin api is the bridge between the front-end and native iOS / Android apis.

I’m a professional plugin developer. I make plugins for Cordova, React Native and Flutter. Flutter is my favorite.
