chriserin··on Hello Backbone.js - A step-by-step tutorial
very nice. I'd like to see some use of underscore templates to replace some of the jQuery append/html rendering techniques. Also, routing would be cool.

(nitpik: In your swap method there is a variable swaped, should prob instead be swapped)

chriserin··on One More Thing: ‘iTunes Match’ Will Upgrade Your Ripped Music For $24.99 A Year
This is a treasure trove of marketing information. Apple will know your entire library and what you are listening to and when. Not exactly a privacy concern, but its something they can potentially make money off of somehow.
chriserin··on Lessons From a Coffee Entrepreneur
If you are a patron at a place you like, and you want to support them, you pay in cash, and its polite of you to do so. Thats a little bit extra for the establishment and a little less for Visa/EDS/Chase or whatever payment chain your transaction flows through.
chriserin··on Suspension, Ban or Hellban?
Open discussion, democracy and transparency is certainly the goal of the internet at large, but individual sites have different incentives. The moderator has curating as one of their responsibilities and they probably have a general sense of the kind of discussion they'd like to foster.

Moderators and site-owners should take all measures at their disposal so that they can shape the overall experience of the site they envision. In the end, whatever mix of authoritarianism and democracy achieves that is fine.

That being said, hellbanning seems cruel. I think that all punishment should be explicit because the trick is to cultivate reasonable users rather than to pick and choose. I'd prefer some sort of comment rate adjustment as punishment (1 per day, 1 per hour, 1 per quarter hour, etc). As from personal experience, most obnoxious comments derive from a mixture of caffeine and passion.

chriserin··on A brief Sony password analysis
& is physically more difficult to type than U because of the hand stretch from holding the shift key. Not everybody has the same size hands :). While typing letters is easy, special chars are more awkward just because of where they are on the keyboard.
chriserin··on A brief Sony password analysis
I think this should be the main point. The sites you care about (email, facebook) should have a unique password. The sites that don't matter can have a login with your common password.

This is much more reasonable than asking everybody to remember 50 unique passwords.

chriserin··on Kids who spot bullshit, and the adults who get upset about it
Kids can spot bullshit, but how often do adults spot bullshit and have less power to do something than the kids cited in the article did. This article is cool because it gives specific examples of children wading through the muck to deliver the truth when that's something that all of us wish we could do in our different contexts.
chriserin··on Microsoft refuses to comment as .NET developers fret about Windows 8
Yeah, that's what is confusing to me about any .NET developer employment angst. ASP.NET and other business infrastructure technology seem unaffected by desktop software innovation. I have to believe that desktop software is a small piece of all .NET development and innovation in this area shouldn't threaten the platform.
