chrisbolt··on US airlines are pushing to remove protections for passengers and add more fees
Looking at the numbers, for example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines#Business_trend...

United had their highest revenue in 2024, and their profit margin was... 5.5%. Would reducing your ticket price by 5.5% make any difference?

chrisbolt··on Are electric cars that much cheaper to operate?
> That's why fast chargers cost significantly more.

Utilities also charge higher per-kW rates due to the high demand to be able to charge each car at 250 or more kW.

chrisbolt··on One dead as London-Singapore flight hit by turbulence
There are times when the pilots are expecting turbulence, when they are notified by ATC or other planes ahead of them. During that time, the light means passengers shouldn't use the lavatories.

chrisbolt··on FAA Audit of Boeing's 737 MAX Production Found Dozens of Issues
I wonder how that would compare to an audit of other manufacturers like Airbus or Embraer.

chrisbolt··on Hertz to sell 20k EVs in shift back to gas-powered cars
The market is mature enough to have standards for charging, but is nowhere near being mature for battery swaps. The charging problem will be solved long before battery swaps get close to being a thing, especially with the recent convergence on NACS.

chrisbolt··on Is my plane a 737 MAX?
> Just curious where one would even find the "scheduled" airframe?

The aircraft column:

https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL2021

https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL2022

B39M is a 737 MAX 9, B38M is a 737 MAX 8, B739 is a 737-900, etc.

chrisbolt··on Is my plane a 737 MAX?
Though I agree flying is extremely safe, keep in mind that of those 4 years, two of them were while the 737 MAX was grounded, and much of it was while air travel was much lower due to COVID.
chrisbolt··on Alaska Airlines 737 Max makes emergency landing due to depressurization
This makes no sense. The Comac 929 is a widebody that is still in the prototype stage, the SSJ100 is a regional jet that competes with the A220 or Embraer (a market where Boeing doesn’t even have a product), and the A320 is not a widebody. No airline replaces Dreamliners with A320s.

chrisbolt··on TSA introducing self-service screening technology in Las Vegas
If you don't also have Precheck, CLEAR does not give you Precheck benefits, it just lets you skip to the front of the normal screening line.
chrisbolt··on Air traffic controllers pushed to the brink
There are so many disclaimers after that table that I feel that citing it as a "nice comparison to other transport methods" is absurdly simplistic and disingenuous. Especially since a sibling comment says "It is utterly fascinating to me that technically walking is just as safe as a car on a journey by journey basis."
