chrisatthestudy··on Delphi is 31 years old – innovation timeline
I'm now retired, but I spent much (most?) of my career developing with Delphi. When I began, it was the new hotness. When I finished, I was supporting legacy applications that were decades old. Good to see it's still around, though.
chrisatthestudy··on Cancer Is Striking More Young People, and Doctors Are Alarmed and Baffled
Yes. From the article:

"Cancer is hitting more young people in the U.S. and around the globe, baffling doctors. Diagnosis rates in the U.S. rose in 2019 to 107.8 cases per 100,000 people under 50, up 12.8% from 95.6 in 2000, federal data show."

chrisatthestudy··on The secret language of ships
Nevertheless it's an interesting addition, and I appreciate it.
chrisatthestudy··on GirlfriendGPT – OSS AI Companion
More interesting, possibly, is the project that this is forked from (by the same developer), which is a general-purpose framework for LangChain Agents: https://github.com/steamship-packages/langchain-agent-produc...

I'm curious, though. It appears to be using the OpenAI API, which means that at some point it has to have an API key, but I can't see any sign in the code of where it expects to get this from.

chrisatthestudy··on My 20 year career is technical debt or deprecated
For much of my (35+ years) programming career I have worked in Delphi/Object Pascal. When I was first introduced to it, it was the new hotness, but the last Delphi job I worked on was supporting a 15 year old legacy product.

On the other hand I'm currently working on Android, where everything seems to be obsolete within a year...

chrisatthestudy··on IndieWeb
Am I completely misunderstanding what this is supposed to be, or am I really so old that I remember what everyone else has forgotten? What you're calling the 'IndieWeb', where everyone has their own website and domain, and hosts their own content on it, we had a name for that.

We called it the World Wide Web.
