i.e. "we don't serve people with dark very curly hair", good luck with that one.
Of course, you can run them express, but then they probably wouldn't stop in small towns like Beacon or Cold Spring. Amtrak is basically this on the New Haven line, how many people actually take it to commute?
New York and Bay Area tech companies can pay two or three times what the suburban office park type companies pay, and they have other benefits that add up as well (i.e. fully-paid tiny-copay health insurance). While housing costs will eat into that somehwat, whether you rent or buy, I don't think that they come close to cancelling out that increase.
Then, when we do go on vacation, there are more flights, since we're near major international airports. Since I live near EWR and JFK, I don't really need to consider connecting flights for European vacations, for example.
There are other less objective things for describing a "nice life", of course (IMO, renting vs. buying should be categorized as one of these, neither is superior). For example, non-chain restaurant availability, quality of cultural institutions, etc.
New York to/from SC is an 11 hour drive without stopping, and the eclipse in the afternoon, so definitely.
It's really teenagers that need to be kept out though, in my experience.
I don't really get delivery food in general, would much rather just walk to the restaurant.
I've decided to solve this by 1-starring and no-tipping any driver that fails to yield to a pedestrian, drives in a bike lane, or exceeds the 25mph speed limit at any point in the ride (so, like, all of them), but of course, I take a cab once every three months, so that won't do much.
If we really want to reduce greenhouse gases, a better approach might be:
1. Properly funding the MTA (congestion charging)
2. Widening sidewalks, especially in Midtown
3. Grade-separated and camera-enforced BRT lanes and/or surface rail with signal priority.
4. Proliferation of bike lanes.
5. Charging market rate for all street parking.
Uber and Lyft have have increased car traffic in New York: http://nyc.streetsblog.org/2017/02/27/its-settled-uber-is-ma...
Shorts are certainly more useful here in the summer (okay, they're basically mandatory if you don't want to be miserable some days) than in SF where it's usually sort of chilly.
Seems overly reductive.
dude loves mom jeans as well.
Let's have a war on smoking instead. I live in New York, and people think it's perfectly acceptable to light a cigarette while walking down the sidewalk and spew their fumes all over everyone walking behind them. Let's punish that like we'd punish them for punching random people on the sidewalk. Hey, if someone hits me and they're not a trained boxer, I'll probably feel fine a few minutes later, but that cancer smoke builds up over time.
Then we can move on to exhaust-producing vehicles, and so on...
